hey, theres this guy in my area selling his ps3 for real cheap but its broken. he says when you turn it on it says on a black screen. i just wanted to know if any of you guys know whats wrong with it and what i can do to fix it?

the only way i know why it would stay on a black screen is when the video output is set on HDMI and the guy as tried using components(red, white and yellow conectors).

Thats all i can think off why its a black screen when you turn it on.

Might be a simple fix. Just hold down the power button for 5 seconds with it connected to the TV (component, HDMI, composite) and that will reset it. But that is not to say that is the definitive problem.

no im not saying buy it, because it may not be the problem that we said, you never know, it could be broken. We are just saying what the problem MAY be. IF only there was some way you could test it first.

I would test it yourself. you need to see the product first. formatting the hard drive is what should correct the issue. Even if it was the hard drive, the ps3 should still come on to the XMB screen. Can you hear the little music note/sound it makes when the ps3 is loaded to the XMB screen? Actually holding down the power button when the ps3 is off for 5 seconds will turn it on and find what ever video connection you are using.
