I burn copied/burned an original game using xboxcreator, but when i put the game in the xbox, it says "To play this disc, put it in an xbox 360 console.

Try using a different burning program, and burning at the slowest speed possible. If your not using Verbatims, get them, unless my first suggestion works.

i used imgburner with xbox creator, also used verbatim disks. Only thing is i havent touched anything with the xbox. Do I still need to update the firmware for the dvd drive?

what ever firmware comes installed on it. Its brand new and has the hitachi drive. am i screwed? lol

So you didn't flash your firmware? If that's the case that's why you cannot play burned games, you need to either get a mod chip installed or flash the firmware so that way you can play backups.
