Blank PS2 discs = Blank dvds.

It's the way it's pressed in the factory that differentiates the two, I believe.

Correct ripper :D

Some of the very, very, very, very early ps2 games were on CD's i think maybe, or that mightve just been ps1 games.

Your right though.

Yeah, some PS2 games were CD based. All PS1/X games were CD based.

Oh btw, it's "you're", not "your" ;-P

Haha :-)

Original PS2 games are pressed in a very special way. This is why you can make a direct copy, but just because you did a 1:1 copy in your desktop computer, its not going to straight up work in your ps2.

PS2 games are pressed, both DVD and CD. The reason however that they don't work is becuase of the fact there a special track on there that prohibits you from burning that data. Therefore your copy is just a coaster without somesort of bypass around that track.

good to go!!

Which is why you get those special copied game kits right? Where you take the front of the tray off and put that little hook in to open the tray without pressing the button and swapping games etc.?

You need either SwapMagic or a modchip of some sort.

About 30% of the times they try to mod your ps2, they just fry um byb accident lmao.

And phlax, "swapmagic" is a brandname i presume, because there are lots and lots of different versions of the same thing going around.

I believe at one point there was a DIY method of it, make your own little hook device (oh, the terminology!), and one of the very very early ps2 games.

Possibly if someone that worked at the gaming industry Accidentally leaked out some plank pressed Ps2 Disks, it might work, or maybe not, or maybe he takes the machine home with him lol. (j/k)

That honestly made no sense. The game is pressed on the disc...think of mass production. If you are thinking the disc is specially manufactured and the game is simply copied on to the disc you are mistaken. The technology consumers have does not have the ability to burn )read, whatever) the pressed sectors. Swap Magic disks are pressed as is a ps2 disc (plus a large amount of dummy data to play large TOC games). A modchip injects the missing code.

Get it?

edit

Just to throw it out there...bit setting to dvd-rom is as close to a pressed disc as you get, I am sure most of you knew that though.

What up Phlax :)

Hey svtstang.
I know nothing about ps2's really, nor do i really care to.

But...this is intriguing :D

I thought, that it was something like this.

When an original ps2 game is inserted, before anything happens, it gives a sort of code to the ps2 which authorizes it to be played, and "proves" that the game is genuine sort of.

So, when you have a coped game, it does not have this code, so threfore cant play. So a modchip, is something put into the ps2 so that when you try and play one of these copied games, the modchip gives that special code...which is, as you said, missing.

The other way is those swap magic discs. Its just a...hmmm...like a "blank" ps2 game, so it has that authorisation code on it.

You insert this disk, it inserts the code, the ps2 starts up reading the swap disk like a game, and you swap the games so the ps2 reads your copied one.

Or something, thats what my dad taught me about 3 years ago...maybe he just made it simple for me.

yeah you guys put Sony in the ground,LOL

But all of us here are right. But even with bitsetting, there is no real way to get around that secure track, not with out someone from sony releasing the code...good luck there.

Too bad becuase pirates just about raped the DC with self-bootable copies.

good to go!!

I think its most likely machinecode/binary or something, and i think your taking the "code" thing to literally.

besides, its not like its a secret or anything, because we can do it with modchips, it sjust hard.

What did I tell you about reading my mind? Tsk tsk

@billybob

You are more or less correct. Pretty apparent to see why mod chips are illegal after taking a closer look at the situation, isn't it?
