When analyzing a disk everything is fine in the beginning and when it gets to 30 to 15 seconds time remaining (80%) analyzed, it stops and says it encountered an error and cannot continue "Failed to read file
*D:\*. I has worked fine in the past. I removed DVD shrink and reloaded it to no avail. Help

This usually happens to me when the disc is scratched, etc. There's not much you can do... (not that I know of, anyway)

The other possibility is copy protection shrink can't decrypt. Try ripping the DVD to your hard drive using DVDFab, once the files are on your hard drive you can then open the files using shrink and proceed as you normally would.

DVDFab http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm

Use Anydvd and believe

DVDFab HD Decrypter (free)... http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm

The error simply means the system can't read files and times out while trying. Anything that can cause a read problem is a suspect for CRC errors. As mentioned, Scratches, surface flaws, finger prints, bad press, and copy protection are usually the culprits for CRC errors.

For scratches resurfacing tools and scratch kits work pretty good as long as the scratch doesn't effect the inner dye layer. You can do a read scan to check for internal problems, bad press. You need a driver decryption program, like AnyDVD, running at the same time or the decryption can show as bad sectors (one of the causes mentioned).

If you don't already have AnyDVD, the free DVDFab HD Decrypter John123 mentioned is the best free ripper available to get the cleaned source files needed for a trouble free backup.
