My xbox 360 has a faulty drive, it keeps making some weird sounds sometimes, and a few times it takes a while for it to load, but I can always play my back-ups just fine. I always burn them at 2x, but do you think it'll help my drive if I burn them at 1x? Is there any significant advantage or is it just a waste of time?

The 360 is just the opposite of the PS2 (burning slower is better). You'd be better off burning at 4x. And, as always, only use quality media. Cheap media may work, but it strains the laser which leads to premature laser failure.

As for burning, I've seen it with my own eyes where a 360 with a ms25 would give both an "Open Tray" error or would start to load, but then give a "Dirty Disc" error using Verbatims burnt with Clone CD at 2.4x. The same backups were then copied and reburnt to Verbatims with Clone CD at 4x and worked flawlessly.
I used the backups to make copies because if there were any burn errors then recopying them would have just amplified the errors. So this ruled out any burn errors on the 2.4x's. Plus, I knew anyhow the 2.4x's were good as they were my own personal copies.
My 360 (at the time) had a ms25 drive and played both 2.4x and 4x's. The other 360 was straight out of the box new, flashed with the same firmware.
