Hi, I have a 3.1U D2B planning to install a Wiikey is there anything I have to do before I install it and use the 1.3 setup disc? Also, when it is installed I use the 1.3 setup disc first then 1.9 update right?

Make sure to turn WiiConnect24 off. D2B with cut legs? Make sure you are an experienced solderer.

Update then use the config. disk to turn Region Override on.

I got my Wii at launch so it should be the one with cutlegs right? Also, so if I do not want to config the region override should I just install the wiikey and use the 1.9 update disc.

Ok . . I know this is an of topic Question. And as an experienced modder .. I shouldn't even Ask this .. BUT.

I Don't know how to use GCOS..(never USED it).

HOW. Do I burn it .. and which option do I use to boot the 1.3 CONFIG disc.
I want to COnfigure a 3.1E Wii. It recognizes the disc (1.3 Conf Disc)
But it doesn't boot it.
When I ask how to acces the disc on forums, the answer is "USE GCOS"
But I'm not familiar with it.. I know it's easy, but some detailed
help would be welcome.

I have a D2B chip fw 3.1U Wii prior to installing a genuine Wiikey. I'm pretty sure the Wiikey is installed properly by a professional. Currently I am unable to boot from config setup disk 1.2 or 1.3. Tried the GCOS 1.3 with no success. Original games work.

any help is appreciated!!

I used dvd-r Playo brand media (maybe Verbatim brand will work?), used ImgBurn v2.3.2 and Nero 7, burn at 8x speed with Nero and auto speed with ImgBurn.

Use Verbatim 8X instead and burn with ImgBurn at 4X speed.

I burned wiikey config 1.3 (bootdisc.us) on media Verbatim 16X using ImgBurn 4X speed with no success on bootup. I did not used the filechop or fixsize programs.

Anyone updated to firmware 3.1U prior to installing the Wiikey and is able to boot config disc, backups games, or updates(1.9b) etc?

thx!!

I had a similar problem and I read somewhere that WiiKey is terrible on 3.X firmware. I had a D2B chipset WII with 3.0u. I did the install myself and I am experienced in soldering, couldnt get a single backup, update or GCOS to work. I ordered a Wiinja Deluxe and installed that and now everything is flawless for the most part.
I burn my backups on Mac OSX using Disk Utility to write the ISO and I do this using TDK DVD-R media that I bought from a Radioshack. I can run a copy of Strikers Charge Patch by Vortex that in infamous for bricking without problems as well.

Use the long wire install, and not the short wire. I tried the short wire, and nothing happened with the WiiKey. I switched to the long wire (with much difficulty), and suddenly it worked perfectly.

Long wire is where it's at!

P.S. D2B - WiiKey - 3.1U - No legs cut!

im in the same boat as allen. My wii already has 3.1u and i just got my hands on two authentic wiikeys. I looked over a few install guides and prob gonna go with chipD short wire install.

As far as loading up the wiikey, i was told i had to first boot from a gc disc first something or other? I cant find the thread any more but i made a disc with MultiGameIsoCreater packing on 1.3 and 1.9g So...install wiikey and boot that disc? Im using imation dvd+r 16x. Ive already burned 1.3 and 1.9g at 4x
