I live in Sydney, Australia. I bought my XBOX mid-December last year (2006). It is now October and the piece of crap has stopped working.

All that stuff about the triple red light, &etc is probably true. I don't have the triple, but a similar problem. It doesn't load up at all.

The reality is that i did nothing to it. I didn't drop it or mishandle it in any other way. I did play it, but didn't even qualify for overplaying it or something like that.

No consumer should spend good money on a console and then have the thing fail on them within ten months from general use.

I had wanted to be loyal to XBOX. I had bought the original system instead of PS2, and maybe tellingly, i had bought the N64 instead of PS1 before that. I was glad to see someone take on the PS megaweight, i felt competition in the games industry was good.

I should have known. This is another case of Microsoft releasing a product before it is ready, with defects and all. I hope systems are starting to be debugged as the console continues on its sale life.

Microsoft gives us the consolation when we buy the console that there is warranty, which you can purchase beyond the paltry (and highly conditional) 30 day-warranty which comes with the console standard (by law). But we shouldn't have to pay for a warranty (and it's damn expensive by the way), we should have some assurance that the system will last. But the system doesn't even last over ten months in many cases, and i am evidence of that.

I was buying the system more out of loyalty than consideration for its quality. I didn't research this latest console, and didn't consider the triple red light phenomenon anything more than propaganda levelled by PS fanatics (trust me.. their around) or if real, very rare. Lets face it, the PS3 now has specs which are just as good, and arguably better. It's controller could do with a change, but that's for first person shooter lovers anyway.

In conclusion, don't waste your money on the XBOX360, it's faulty. Buy the PS3 instead.

Shame on Microsoft, a large company, for not quality testing the product fully, and for releasing a sub-standard prototype. I hope they get there just deserves and lose the console wars.

No.

I'd take a system that has a massive library of games and better features and hardware, even though it does have a high rate of breaking down over a console that not only attempts to force the Blu-ray onto consumers but also has a terrible list of games now and a not too promising line-up.

As for the rest of your post, well I agree on a lot of what you said, that being the passages about there needing to be some definite insurance. But hey, lets be realistic: the sort of insurance people want they'll likely never get.

Things break for all sorts of reasons. You sound like a sensible person, but I'll ask regardless: did you try a new power supply? Different TV? Different AV cords, etc.?

Wow... I guess maybe instead of ranting here you should have tried reading your manual. It's a 1 year warranty, not 30 days.

I also find it quite odd that you've posted this in both the 360 and PS3 forums and then dropped out. Trying to stir up the coup, are ya??

In response to Wabashman and thegrunt. I would firstly find that hard to believe (that is that they offer those extended warranties free and that was a point i was making). I would hope though that they have updated their standard warranty (ie. to 1 or 3 years). There are also differences between countries in warranties, deals they offer, i might also point out (i am in Australia). From what i know the offer we have has remained largely unchanged in regards to warranties, and the need to pay for the warranty beyond the standard 30 days. Either way, for the early people like me, my early contract (the offer at the time) sets the terms which apply to me (ie. i don't have any free extended warranty).

In response to xHaydenx, i appreciate your advice. I have tried those things.

Why are people giving him a hard time. He was just stating his opinion in both forums without the implication of a fanboy fight. Everyone in the world has the right to spend there hard earned cash on what they would like, but as far as the 360 hardware being better thats a joke. Thats why 30% of xboxs break while the ps3 has a 1 to 2 percent failure rate. On the xboxs defense though it does have a better library which made me consider getting one, but I don't want to drop $400 on another system thats not going to make it a year. Btw there are games out there better than halo.

The warranty is not one year. I know my warranty. You should remember that deals have changed, and the warranty deal depends on the country.

I put the discussion in XBOX360 and PS3 forums to try get as many hits as possible. I don't want other people going out and buying the system basically, unless they want to run that risk.

Look, it is simple. The PS3 is better, and i say that as an ex-loyal XBOX fan. Of course XBOX 1 stood out on graphics, controller, and even durability (though maybe not on games). Currently the 360 has more games, but we all know the reputation of sony systems and games (that is, they pump them out like crazy). It is quite likely only a matter of time.

In terms of a coup. It is not like it would matter even if there was some "coup" motive. This isn't political heresy, this is a video games console, and the reality is.. the thing has problems and XBOX360 gamers and especially prospective purchasers should be aware of that. I have noticed that on some XBOX-pro gaming review sites, and particularly on my local gaming television review show ('good game') they have talked about the systems, the specs of the games and yet failed to mention the problems that are widely under discussion on the net (ie. in regards to 360 and failures). People should know.

In my opinion, the 360 is not a wonder machine, and people should be siding with me, not a company who only has profits in its interests (that is, Microsoft).

And you have a habit of being disrespectful to people on this site so play nice. For now this and the other thread will stay open for a little bit....once it gets out of hand (and it will) they'll both disappear.

I am a huge 360 fanboy - just love the games for sure. But no doubt I do agree that the 360 in terms of hardware is pretty crappy - very loud, overheats, etc... I mean I got the HDDVD add on but the damn thing is so loud all i hear is the machine during the quiet parts! So yes MS could have done a better job on the hardware aspect of the game. Graphically and everything else about the xbox is awesome!! I am on my second 360 and so far it seems to be working.

So are you sure that the "new" 3 year warranty MS is offering is only for US customers? I would at least call the hotline and find out what you can do - maybe they will take care of it for you if you just complain a bit. In fact posting here without first consulting the hotline is not a good idea - they may just take care of you. But since they now offer a 3 year warranty I don't think there is any reason to steer someone away from this system and towards a PS3.

All I can offer is from the 4 360 units that I've owned (a Hitachi 0059DJ, 2 Samsung MS28's and a Hitachi 0079FL) I've never had one single problem with either of them.

Ya, you really know your warranty. It took me 10 seconds to find out what it is for Australia... 12 MONTHS

Look, we're all here to help out in these forums, but if you don't even want to help yourself, what do you expect from the rest of us. I'm sorry your 360 is having problems... I really am. And I'm not trying to sound like a prick. If I wanted to be one I wouldn't have bothered looking for the info and then posting it for you. But because you're new here, you don't know how much of the "PS3 owns 360" or "PS3 sucks" flame wars we get on almost a weekly basis.

And it always starts out with just like what you posted:

From Xbox.com Australia:

Quote:
