Slim PS2 refuses to read discs

So i was playing my backup of Warriors Orochi when suddenly it decided to hang ingame during saving(sucks)
Had to turn the power off
Turned it on again and voila, "The disc could not be read"
All my DVDs now do this, backup or not, when they were working fine b4
Haven't tried a video dvd, but would imagine the same thing happening.

It's a slim, v13 if i'm not mistaken
Upon inserting a dvd it makes noises like it's trying to read it
Then after a while those noises become like grinding noises
Then the error pops up.

Tried opening the ps2 and cleaning everything
Now it's always making grinding noises when I insert a dvd
Would a recalibration do the trick?
Any thoughts?

I have never looked inside my slim ps2 only taken the FAT ones apart, but when you were inside your slim to clean it, did you notice if the laser arm moves freely. It could very well be the laser arm guide or gear is grinding and needs cleaning or adjusting the screw a bit.
