Replacing Hitachi 79 w/ v78

My mate bought a new elite system and was unable to find any lot #'s w/ a v78 drive. He ended up getting a v79 which needs to be flashed w/ Maximus 79 Passkey... (I Don't want to take a chance on bricking his drive as I have no experience soldering this chip)

My question is... can I use FW Toolbox 4.5 to obtain the key and then purchase a v78 and copy the key into the v78 and use it as a replacement... from what I have read you can not dump or flash the fw on a 79 without the passkey but you can obtain the key w/ fw toolbox 4.5....


Any help would be appreciated... Thx... JLF24

You can't obtain the key without a vaild dump which as you stated requires the Maximus 0079 passkey.
