i have a bunch of 700mb movies that i want to put on cd-r and be able to watch em on my dvd player. I thaught of using svcd with nero, but that made my file as big as 800mb, meaning it wouldnt fit on a regular cd-r. Any info is definately appreciated.

This question should be in the VCD/SVCD forum, not here.

FYI, however, when making VCD/SVCD you can fit up to 800MBs (well, better make it a little smaller, but the actual file is usually smaller than reported on your HD anyway) onto a 700MB CDR.

This is because then VCD/SVCD formats do not use space on the CDR for file structure information as is needed on a data CDR.

what do you recommend for software?
because in Nero 6 im having problems with the filesize (700mb or less). It always makes it bigger. What could i do in the settings. I tried a lot of stuff and it always stayed the same..thx

As Was allready stated you can fit up to 800mb on a 700mb CD-R in (S)VCD Format....
OK...You want to be able to watch these Movies on your DVD player, Well If you want to do this Correctly you Are going to have to download a High Quality Mpeg encoder Like "Tmpgenc" Because VCD"s are in Mpeg1 format Not AVI format...Then you are Going to have to use TMPGEnc to encode your AVI file to Mpeg1/VCD Format, If your Lucky there will not be any problems but no one is ever that Lucky...Then after you have encoded your AVI file to Mpeg1/VCD format you will then realize that your Movie will not fit on a Single CD-R, Most All regular length Movies will have to go on at least 2 CD-r"s..So Luckilly TMPGEnc also has a Mpeg editor so you can cut your Mpeg1/VCD File in Half...Then you can take your VCD Files and Burn them to CD-R useing Nero..You should also Burn at as slow of a speed as Possible because (S)VCD"s do not have any Error correction Like Data CD"s do this is why you can get 800mb on a 700mb CD-R, and Burning at a High speed can cause errors.....You should read some Guides on how to make VCD"s Properly, There should be some on this Site and over at http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ , and you should also learn some of the concepts behind the way Digital Video works this way you will understand whet you are doing....Cheers
