4 and 8 gig memory cards are not large enough for my needs. I was wondering if there was any way to mod a regular laptop hard drive so that the PSP would just think that its just one LARGE memory stick?

you'd have to do some serious work to make a laptop hdd work on the psp. you'd have to code firmware, find out how to connect the hdd to the memory stick slot, and power the hdd. you probably wouldn't get more than one hour on the psp battery because the hdd would drain the battery quickly.

my 4gig has seven compressed games, snes9x, windows portal, and i still have 360mb left. i need a 8gig because some games are still huge, even after compressing; crisis core is a fine example. but it's not like i need all of the psp games.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

I think an external harddrive can be used, just like the Datel 4GB PSP harddrive.I'm not sure about this though, since I haven't seen what it looks like inside. If it is anything like a harddrive instead of a memory duo pro stick it could exceed more than 8Gig of memory.I'm like cee43ja1 though, and really don't see why anyone would actually need more than 8GB.I'm using a 4GB Duo Pro memory stick and that is plenty of space for me.If someone actually made a harddrive larger than 8GB of memory it would probably cost a ton of money also.In the long run it probably wouldn't be worth producing something like this, considering not enough people would actually buy it because of price concern. The problem is it would need to use something similar to what the iPod and Zune etc... devices use, which is a PDA harddrive. They are expensive because they use nano technology, and this is a problem.I'm not saying it can't be done, but it would be an expensive investment.I wonder how many people would actually invest in something like this, because something small like 40GB could probably end up being a hundred dollars or more.It is something to think about though, and would definately make PDA music devices like iPod or Zune useless.I would like to actually look inside one of those Datel PSP harddrives, and see what they actually did.I bet it is similar to one of those PDA harddrive devices though, with a bunch of adjustments.

Why in gods name would anyone want an external hard drive hanging off of a handheld system. And heres a couple of things:

1.) Power supply?
2.) Any major vibrations over time will ruin the hard drive.
3.) PSP only functions as a usb pen when something other than the camera or the gps is connected to the usb.
4.) What the heck do you need +60gigs of space for on any handheld?

There has already been a harddrive made for the psp that is external.Look up Datel's 4GB harddrive, and you will see what I mean.I wasn't talking about a PC harddrive that is external you know with a usb connection, but rather a PDA harddrive that is used in iPod or Zune devices etc...The power supply for it can be used from the battery, and the connection can come from the duo memory stick slot. There is a solution for someone that wants more than 8GB of storage:

Double Expand Memory Converter for PSP
Finally an affordable solution to use cheap SD, Mini SD or MMC cards you already own on your PSP!
The Dragon Double Expand Memory Converter for PSP is a plug and play solution that saves you money and expand your PSP media capacity! 2 cards can even be used at the same time!!

- Converts SD, Mini SD, MMC card to be used on PSP.
- 2 pcs of memory cards can be used simultaneously.
- User friendly , just plug and play

You can use two cards at once to double your capacity for the psp,and when I look at this device it uses the same connection method the Datel 4GB harddrive uses which isn't USB.It is possible like I said to create a harddrive for the psp,but to be honest who would actually need that much space. Not to mention the cost of making one of these would cost more than you think.I don't know how much vibration an iPod or Zune device produces, and I'm sure it would probably produce as much vibration as one of them.Like I said though I'm happy with 4GB of memory, and 8GB of memory is more than enough to fill my needs for the psp.It is hard for me to explain in words I guess if you can't picture it,but it would be similar to what the Datel 4GB harddrive is like just improved is all.

You can find it off of this site bro http://www.mrmodchips.co.uk/catalog/prod...9bd81c35dd4c877 .The device is actually just a modified Datel 4GB harddrive adapter, and is the only solution at the moment that can double the capacity.I can picture a PDA harddrive being used this way,but it would require a bigger battery supply which would make it expensive also.

has anyone even tried the double memory converter with two 8gb? i doubt the psp will recognize all that space, not without another firmware update.

I'm not even sure, but if it recognizes 8GB cards then it might work.Honestly I can't verify if it works or not with two 8GB cards, but it would be something to look into.I guess the question is do both cards get recognized in the device or are they used simultaneously. You know like once the first card reaches its max storage does the other card then pick up or do they both just get recognized and show the full amount of storage. That is a good question though and I would like to see what the answer is aswell.
