I am considering getting a Wii to chip after a friend of mine had theirs done. I thought it would be a good idea first to see what the stories were on the subject on one simple thread. I was going to do a poll but this forum doesn't support it so:
1. Which mod chip did you use for your Wii?
2. How many attempts did it take you to get it working properly?
3. Did you brick your Wii or prevent it from reading any discs?
4. Where did you buy your mod chip?
5. Are you happy overall?
Could a mod please sticky this so we can get this thread popular and get some useful replies :D I think it will be very useful for new modders to help them decide whether or not to go for it. Thanks!

Ok, I just bought my friends Wii for $125 yesterday and I need advice what modchip to get or which is the best with updates and everything. He had the Wii over a year so its not one of those unmoddable ones. Also, is there anyone that knows a site or a guy that can install modchip or something.

Wow, that was slightly different from the whole idea of this thread... but anyway since you've asked I might as well help.
Wii-Modchips is a good website to start for choosing the best. Unless you know somebody personally, you're going to have to do it yourself! It will probably be hard for you to look around the internet for somebody in your local area who will do this for you.

Since the noob i am on the Wii. I don't know how to mod with chips or have any experience with soldering. The only good place I can find that will mod is this site under wii he says Wiikey - $60 Installed ($90 Legs Missing)
Install Chip Supplied- $40 ($70 Legs Missing) I pretty sure I dont have legs missing. Also, does it get updates or what?

Yes some modchips can be updated. You cannot be sure your IC legs are not missing however, unless you have opened it up and had a look.
Thanks for your feedback ndarkness :D

lol there are a lot of plus' and minus' to all the modchips, but feature wise it does appear as though the Wiikey is the best at the moment. A disable feature should have been built in though ;)

wouldn't this thread fall under the category of which mod chip is better, which it seems like there are already 100 of those threads on this site? j/w.

I'm hoping that this thread should not only discuss what is the best chip, but rather give an insight into the world of mod chips as a whole, and see some of the success stories. It should also help deter people from certain places where lots of faulty chips have been bought from. I was going to make it a poll but that's not possible. Basically this is a written poll.

yea but if you looked at this forum there are a lot of ppls who had problem with the wiikey, but nothing about other chips. Yes it true that a lot of ppls own a wiikey, but that doesn't mean why we don't see any one posting problem with other chips. The wiikey doesn't have any feature that the other chips don't have? at least i don't think it have any innovated update, and they always slow in updated compare to other chips. Didn't mean to bash any chips it just facts, but this thread is about good or bad so why not.
Polling would be a bad idea, because a lot of ppls would said the wiikey for being popular, just because it the first chip released with the update feature, but that's no longer the case, now all chips can be updated.

By talking about what mod chip is the best, you're making this a thread about which chip is better! And the poll questions don't mention anything about what chip is better, only what you used, to help identify problems with any in a central thread. The new cyclowiz v2 has the same if not more features than the wiikey does now... but that's not what this thread should be about!
