Burning 360 games with something Besides a Pioneer burner does it work?

I have a sony nec optiarc ad 7170a and its a Dual Layer burner and it meets all the requirments to burning 360 games. But will it work? has anybody used different types of burners and got good results? Im using verbatim by the way for media.

so it won't mess up my 360 if I use something besides pioneer because I see so many ppl stressing it.

No you would mess it up. Pioneer does make quality burner, but really any burner will do. There was time time when you needed to set the booktype to DVD-ROM. The Pioneer 110D I think was the popular one at the time as it did it automatically, but you don't need to bother with that anymore. Current firmware doesn't require that.

as long as you set your booktype correctly it will work, the reason people suggest pioneer is because it does this automatically for you. You also need to set the layer break correctly.
You need to check your dvd burner and see if it supports bitsetting, what exact burner model do you have?

it also might be a problem that he cant book type it,bc with my samsung burner it states it doesnt book type to dvd-rom and it works fine. even though it states it wont book type it i still go through before every burn and 'attempt' to change the book typing and it says it did it successfully. so my advice would be open up imageburn and see if you can book type it manually and if you can it should work for you.

i was just saying that bc he never stated what FW he had right now. he could be using older FW like im doing where you still have to book type.

It's doubtful anyone is still using firmware that old, but it's possible I suppose. You haven't had to booktype since xtreme 3.0 for Samsung drives. I'm not sure where it was at for Hitachis.

i was using a liteon sohw 832s flashed with cj5m firmware and my games didn't work for like two months. so i just got a pioneer 112d and so far i'm 1 for 1 with working copies and so happy! get yourself a pioneer if you are having problems!

I use three different DL burners and they all have worked for me.
LG GSA-4120B: A117 firmware.
Lite-on LSW-851S: GSOP firmware
Lite-on SOHW-1693S: kC4B firmware from http://codeguys.rpc1.org.
The Lite-on SOHW-1693S was a pain. I couldn't get it to booktype to DVD-ROM, but after flashing it with the KC4B firmware it worked great.
The LG worked great without messing with it.
Can't remember what I did with the Lite-on LSW-851S as I have only burned one game with it. I know it worked though.
