ok i was thinking about buying a mod chip (looking at the CHAMELEON + SOLDERLESS ADAPTER) but wanted to make sure i would use it for more then just backing up a few games.

i dont want to buy it just for backing up games cuz i NEED to play online and i know you cant use backups online. also if they change something on the xbox or i get cought i could lose my account (not worth it if i dont use it)

now my question is... what can you all do with a modded xbox?
1. backup offline games
2. play some extra media files with xbox media player
3. ftp stuff from my computer

?? - can i use any computer programs? (games/instant messangers/browsers)???

?? - can i hook the xbox keyboard (made for pso) up to my xbox and use it on the modded one?

?? - can i load linux/unix/windows on the xbox?

also, what stuff do you use your modded xboxs for? im gonna buy one if its possable ill use something on it, but to be honest i think games just arnt as fun if you cant play em online.

need help getting movies on my xbox without a dvd burner....

first of all if you are playing online i would advise you to get a modchip with a switch on it there are a few out now that have a switch on them and some have the option to add a switch because as soon as you go online and are detected with a modified chip your console is barred from the network for life and you will need to buy a new xbox and here what you can do with a moded xbox
play divx xvid and a veriety of other AVI files
view pictures and so on and have a pictures folder
play copyed and downloaded games
put multiple games on one disk for use in you xbox (well use your pc to make it but it will work in your xbox i use craxtion)
you can also run a n64 emulator on it and add roms as you wish
you can copy games to your xbox hard drive and run them from there without the disk which improves loading times
you can instal linux operating system if you want
there are a bunch of other tools and stuff you can do and theres more to come i imagine

I wouldn't recommend a solderless modchip. I bought one & ended up have to solder it! The pogo points are difficult to align correctly. Especially with the D0 point!

if you load linux on it does the xbox keyboard work? does the controler control like the mouse or something? or is it a xbox version of linux? (sry first time i heard that loading linux on it was actually possable) last linux question: does everything work like linux on a computer? or do you still need xbox compatable stuff?

thanks guys i think i am gonna buy a mod chip now :p (does brand really matter as long as it works??? ...is chameleon anygood? )
---o yeah, how big is linux's bios?

the chameleon is only like 33 bucks and the Xecutor 2.2 pro is like 35. there is a Xecutor lite 2.2 pro thats going for about 50 right now tho.

so far im thinking that the chip doesnt really matter as long as it works... i too would like the external switch tho :p anyone know of a chip with this? (its probubly easy to add onto an internal switch but i dont like tweeking microchips :/

need help getting movies on my xbox without a dvd burner....

Which chips allow you to turn your xbox chip on and off using the power buttons for different durations? These seem like a good solution.
