I'm a virgin at this 'burning games' stuff. However, given the PS2 being a somewhat antiquated system now, I thought it reasonable to DL a the few games I'd like to try which have little-to-no chance of being release outside of Japan.
Anyway, my problem is as follows:
-DL'd torrent for 'The King Of Fighters MI Reg. A'
-Extracted the win.rar file
-Using 'DVD Decrypter' I burned said file onto a 4.7Gig Verbatim DVD-RW -Using a 'Swap Magic 3.8 Coder' I boot the disk & attempted to run the game in my PS2 (trying both the 'normal' & 'special' boot disc options)
-Result: Game doesn't play :(
...All I get is either a blank/black screen or I'm returned to the browser screen. I can hear the lens searching but the disc fails to spin (as it normally does when I load an official PAL/NTSC game).
Does the fact I'm trying to use an RW disc have anything to do with what's happening? What speed should I be burning it at (I've tried 8X, 4X & 2X)? Must I use Alcohol 120% or should Decrypter work (120's not officially available anymore & the torrent of it I DL'd doesn't have an install file)?
First off, do not burn games on DVD-RW. Only DVD-R/+R allowed.
2nd. Make sure you burn the game on 4x speed. From what you're saying, SwapMagic can't read the disc fast enough, so it throws you off to PS2 browser.
3rd, when you're swapping the disc, if you have a slide card, make sure it goes all the way to the left when you're inserting the backup disc.
You can use any program you want, it doesn't really matter, I use PowerISO, also DL'd. Also, just in case, if the image is more that 3.5Gigs, try compressing it then burning it, it really helps if the disc is skippy.
If all of the above doesn't work, try DL'ing another image. Usually when this happens, SwapMagic says that it's a 'Not a valid PS2 disc'.
Thanks Gerinych!
It looks as though my problem was indeed to with the read-write DVD factor. I brought a few TDK DVD-Rs and VOILA!... the DLs work just fine! : D
Thanks for your advice (and the quick response).
