I am about to get a new gaming computer and I am wondering if I should stick to XP or go to Vista. I am getting mixed reviews about this. Thanks

Well myself i have vista and the only problems i have had is compatibility issues, but with you that will depend on which games you're going to be using.

I Would choose XP, for the only reason is that it takes up too much resources. XP is a far superior OS

for a gaming computer sticking with XP is best for right now.

but eventually in the future you will have to upgrade to Vista since they are sure to release DirectX updates that require Vista...keeping you from running the game with max settings if you stay with XP.

So in the long run you are probably better off getting Vista + extra RAM and being frustrated for a little while since it isnt that hot for games at the moment. It will get better.

I would also echo everyone else's sentiments here at the moment Vista can be a bit temperamental and has compatibility issues i would stick with XP until things become more stable. I am running Vista and things are fine but every now and then u get some lil issue and if your not computer savvy so to speak i would just recommend to stay with XP for stability and reliability factorrs

I think you should stick with XP, until the next Service Pack comes out. I believe one is coming out in Q1 of '08, as so I've been told. I recommend wait a while for the SP's, then upgrade your new computer with extra memory, RAM (Believe me, it eats up RAM like a #!@#$.), etc.

What are the advantages of having Vista?

None for now.

Stick with Xp untill Microsoft force you to use Vista.

From numerous posts and articles, the advice is to stick with XP. Plus this: When someone is going to spend hundreds of dollars on a piece of software, they usually want it to last. Microsoft has its ups and downs with the software it puts out on the market; the good being XP and Windows 98 and the ugly being Windows 2000 and ME. Since the recent release of Vista, some have begun to question if it will actually last, and whether or not it is worth spending the $$$ to upgrade to it. Recently Microsoft has announced that the sucessor to Vista (codenamed Vienna, formerly known as Blackcomb) will come in 2009, with the beta to appear by mid-08. Assuming Microsoft adheres to this schedule, this is a suprisingly fast release, giving Vista a life time of only ~2 years. Compare that to Windows XP release in October 2001, and lasting all the way up to early 2007. But of course, Vista was initially intended to be released in '03, and just look how that turned out.

I think you are better off with XP right now too. Vista has too much DRM embedded into it for me to use.
