I've read hundreds of threads and still do not understand the purpose of the wiikey setup disk. Will backed up games boot direct and play without the set up disk?
I have successfully installed the mod chip and backed up games ("Successfully Finished" note and all), but can't get the games to play. Do I need to use the setup disk?
1) Update 1.9b
This uploads a new set of instructions onto the WiiKey. You put it in, and it flashes the WiiKey to fix various bugs in the code. You do this once, and it saves it forever(ish).
2) Config 1.3
This allows you to change settings on the WiiKey (once you install the update). It's like the Options dialog in a program. You use this to change the speed of the DVD drive (6x) and to turn regionless on.
If you don't update and config the WiiKey, you may see various bugs when playing burnt disks.
As far as 'Backing up your games'... this is harder because only certain DVD Drives can read the Wii disks. Chances are if you made your own backups, the .iso is corrupt.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. So, I shouldn't need either one to play backup games right? The reason I ask is that I have yet to successfully get a backup to play in my modded system. The chip was installed by a pro, so i'm confident in the connections. After several attemps and plenty of forum reading, I've finally gotten several games to be successfully backed up. I've got the LG drive to read, Pioneer drive to write, using Verbatim discs, and IMG burn software. I've taken three games to "Successful Finish", but can't get the games to play. ANY IDEAS?
