Is there any difference in an internal and an external dvd-rw drive? If so - what? Which is better? Also, what I want to do with the burner is take excerpts of movies and basically make a compilation of scenes on a dvd. Is this possible? Appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Hi, burners come in eide/atapi or sata (internal, so this means matching the drive to your hdd). Whereas external drives usually are usb 2 or firewire 400. External are usually just plug and play. So for ease of use and installation use external(but somewhat more expensive). However there exist some enclosures for internal drives with their own power supplies that can convert an internal to an external drive connected via usb 2. Choose wisely.

I've actually had better luck with internal dvd-r/rw drives. The only real thing i enoyed about external was the portable attribute. Other than that, i'll stick with my internal.
