did you have any settings changed in your setup that would have made it faster before the format that you just have not done again since the format? Here are some things you can read through and try.

you might check out the new antivirus software from Microsoft-One Care Live @
onecarelive.com

*Do not install or run without removing all components of any other software first!!!* Most will have a removal tool on their site. Once you use the add/remove function, then remove any folder remants from the Program Files folder.

once done, though this is @ss-backward, the free online version of the program is superior to the purchased version when doing an anti-virus/anti-spyware scan--it has a great REGISTRY CLEANER not included with the paid one.

i use the purchased version for real time protection and the on line for scanning. the online version is free. Go figure.

i always run the free version to speed up my computer.

the 1st time i ran, i had over a thousand Registry entries that were removed!

after using the free version, you can always reinstall your current anti-virus program.

They also have free telephone support @ 866 663 2273.

No, i don't work for them,
Ron

Start with the basics have you booted into safe mode & done a disk cleanup & defrag, another point is your harddrive speed a 5400rpm model or 7200 rpm if it's a 5400rpm go get yourself a faster larger hdd & image it,as your wasting all the available power your cpu has with a huge bottle neck of what's a useless hdd, changing said hdd will practically double your speed, yeah i realise it maybe hard to believe but i've done it & it works.A useful little utility is microsofts tweakui power toy it's free & pretty nifty especially for adjusting speed of menu's plus a few other handy adjustments it can do,best of all when the tweaks are set the utility uses no cpu or memory

Regarding the links to increasing performace in xp if your running any sort of GUI software like windowblinds etc some of those tweaks won't work as they'll interfere with the running of the graphic software,by rights windowblinds or whatever will give you a popup saying as much & will request said changes be turned off

EDIT: You can use ccleaner to remove any registry startup shortcuts to help xp speed up a little on boot it's listed under the tools button on the left,if you have adobe installed but don't use it delete it's speed optimizer entry (adobe 8.0 etc has a new registry entry which it installed to optomize it's loading when the app is required),you can also use the same registry entry remover for other unused other unecessary entries
