Hey all, i have a dms wii and i installed the wiikey without using wires. Im sure that the soldering joints are all well because i tested for connectivity from the chip on the wiikey to the pins on the dvd chipset that it runs too. all are fine and no bridged joints. I then plugged in the drive and tested the power and ground connection and got a 3.4v reading. So this means that the connections are good right? what else could be wrong that it dont want to detect anything that is recorded but plays originals fine.
I even tried using the config disc and even the 1.9b firmware flash that was a 1.4G disc. I used imgburn to record the disc. Could it be the disc being used or the modchip?
what is the c1 and c2? capacitors? could these have been fried while installing the chip?

first i tried a copy of a game, which was fujifilm. then i tried the firmware flash with memorex. both come up with disc read error. the originals work though. is there an alternate way to test the power and ground connections?

Well if you are sure with the installation then I would recommend using better media. Verbatim 8X is my choice to use.

Never mind. Got it fixed. Even though the voltage read correctly, seems i had a little too much solder on one of the connections. Cleared some of the stuff up, as well as made sure the solder touched the board, and now im in business. = )
