I got USA Wii with Wiikey 1.9g installed. No update were perform on this Wii before. After running SMG USA version update successfully, Wii firmware upgraded to 3.0(U). I now no longer can boot up with Wiikey 1.3 boot disk. It keeps giving me the remove disk and restart error message.

I can't play any PAL or Jap game since I can't go into the config to change the region settings. I don't think my wii is semi-brick, cuz I can see all the menus when I go into the wii settings.

I can play some copied games, including SMG, in US version fine without problem. Inserting Mario Striker US version, Wii would prompt for update, which I refused. Mario Striker is 6 months older than SMG, why is my Wii asking for update again ?

Should I update on the internet ? Anyone had similar experience ?

NTSC Wii with f/w 3.1u. SMG NTSC. Wiikey

I upgraded my Wiikey using the 1.9g disc. Flashing seems to have worked fine.
Put in SMG and it shows on the Wii Channel.
Run SMG and it starts, showing the Wiimote strap warning. Then I get a dialog box saying "The Game Disc cannot be read..."
I then tried GCOS 1.3 and changed it to be able to run PAL. No luck.
Tried GCOS 1.3 and changed it to be able to run NTSC and DVD down to 3x. No luck.

Any suggestions?

if it gets that far its either a bad burn, a crap iso or the wiikey doesnt like the type of blank media or your writer is having issues

try different blank discs 1st

SMG should update your Wii, if it doesn't, then there's probably something wrong with the disc. I also noticed that ALOT of people have had issues with Wii's that already had 3.1 on their system. I used a backup SMG to update my system from 2.1 to 3.0 (YES 3.0) and I have zero problems with the game.

Ok, have you guys used the 1.9g BETA Hotfix? The Wii official site says to use it at your own risk. Have you guys had any problems with it???

THANKS!

the dude that installed my chip said that the 1.9b and 1.9g updates CAN give you occasional annoying random disc read errors when playing backups. But fortunately my Paper Mario, ResEvil4 and SMG haven't given me any complaints til now...

So basically to sum this all up. If someone where getting the Error 001 they would NEED to flash there wiikey with an update in order for it to work. Also, I am talking about a US wii with a US SMG. Is that basically what I am gathering from reading thus far?

Hi. Just wanted to let you know how I got on with SMG.
After reading all these threads to gain the knowledge, I gave it a go, and it worked for me:

Pal Wii 2.2E fw
WiiKey with original fw. I had never updated this before
Downloaded 1.9g hotfix from wiikey website, and burnt using IMGBURN on 4x speed
Ran wiikey update first(just follow all onscreen instructions-like many have said-it does a test update before the actual update. After each section of the update it ask you to either press A(on a gamecube pad) or press the reset button on the front of the wii. You will know when all updates have finished because when you press A or reset for the last time you hear homer simpson say "You're all nuts"
After that I removed the 1.9g update disc, just put SMG (copy)into the Wii, clicked on the spinning disc on the menu-and it asks you update. I accepted the update which lasted about 2 minutes.
The Wii then recognised Mario Galaxy and it worked great.

I wasnt sure if I had to update the Wiikey fw or the Wii fw first- but this method worked great for me.

Fantastic game too!

Have you had any problems, glitches, screen blackouts from using 1.9g beta hotfix? Reason being, the Wii Official website says, "Use at your own RISK".

I did exactly what he did over a week ago. I have nearly beat the game and have had zero bugs, black screens, glitches, hiccups, sneezes, etc... no problems with backup ResEvil 4 OR Paper Mario either. NICHTS...NOTHING....NADA....NIENTE....

No wiiterd , ive had no glitches, error codes, or any problems whatsoever. Like Sexorcist said, no probs at all. I suppose maybe the tech team @ Wiikey have gotta cover themselves. Maybe they hadnt fully tested every aspect of the new 1.9g hotfix at time of release-I dont know. Possible other people having probs might be from unofficial Wiikeys.

But as i said, it works great for me, I just followed what people had written on this thread, and it was spot on for me.

Weird question. I have my backup of smg. I did the wiikey update to 1.9g and it was successful. I tested to make sure other backups still work and they do. I put smg in, it did the system update and then on the channel screen, in the disc channel it shows super mario galaxy. But when I hit start, it will try to load the game (goes to the black screen) and then in smg font and blue background it says the disc can't be read. Does this make sense if it could do the update off of the backup? I tried burning initially at 8x on verbatim, and then 4x on verbs but still not working. All other backups do still work though. Any ideas?

Mine does exactly the same. I've burnt with Nero and Imageburn. No joy, both do the same. It updated from the disk but won't play from it. Pal Wii and Pal SMG - Wizard one.

I haven't a cleu which chip is in my wii, I just bought it and was told to make sure I stuck with games from my region as to not brick it with the updates. I've got the SMG Wizard release, updated my wii and was then told on reboot that my wii had an error 01 or something and that something naughty was being tried with my wii. I instantly paniced, shut off the wii at the power source (as it's the wife's) and then rebooted it. Not retried SMG again yet but all other games still work!! Guess this is a chip update then

GBATemp list USA Mario Galaxy as incompatible with Japanese systems. It locks on load (Black Screen) It says the same for the PAL version. So the only SMG that will work is the Japanese version.
