you need one of 2 things. 1st is a dual boot motherboard, which will allow you to have two os's aka dual boot. the second is running a virtual pc on your computer, and installing whatever os you want. i would say sell your vista and go get xp. XP is cheaper, faster, and as of now more compatible for most programs.

All you need is one hard drive. Split the drive into 2 partitions and install XP on the first partition. Then install Vista on the second partition. To partition, boot the pc from your OS CD/DVD. If you don't want to do that Use Microsofts virtual pc 2007. Its basically the same thing if not better because you can run vista in a separate window while running xp.

I think Partition Magic 8 comes with Boot Magic integrated. It would allow you to partition your existing hard drive and install XP on the new partition. I used it on my PC and can dual boot Linux and Xp. The program is pretty straight forward and is user friendly. But use VirtualPC 2007 like itpro said only if you want to run OS from separate window, if your only using one OS at a time, don't bother with VirtualPC.
