Usually it won't work or it doesn't have the capacity that it should. If you are talking about physical appearance look for glue bumps at the edges to see if its been split open or cheaply manufactured. Also, if its amazingly cheap and you are buying it from Honk Kong that should be a dead ringer fake right there.

Nearly every single card on ebay is fake... no matter if it's from America, Europe, Asia or Australia... there's nowhere that's safe from fake cards. Buy from a trusted shop, or online at major websites that you know to sell genuine products.
You can tell if a card is fake by putting it in your PSP, pressing triangle over the "Memory Stick" icon, going into the "Information" menu and looking next to "MagicGate", unless it says "Supported" then it's a fake card.
PSP, all the way from 1.00 to 5.50 GEN D2 - DS Lite w/ M3DS Real (M3 Sakura v1.34)
PS3 3.01 - iPod Touch 2G 16GB Jailbroken - Xbox 360 60GB - PC, Q6600, 3GB DDR2, GTX260 (216) 896MB

I Got a 4gb mem stick and a 2gb from ebay
the 2gb alwasys looked weird in a way it didnt have that many things like magicgate or anything on it and it never gave me more than a gig of storage so thats a fake
but
when i go to info in my 4gb it says unknown next to MagicGate but it works fine
do you think that both are fake??
and also my 2gb doesnt work now it just sits there and the light keeps flashing for minutes and minutes
theres no way that i could get rid of the 2 gig right?
As for the 4GB, it's a fake, but you ended up with a well made fake :) you can use that as normal. I used to have a fake 2GB that worked perfectly, had it for over a year, though i gave it to a friend after i downgraded his PSP as he only had a 128MB stick (Not much use for games and such).
