the steps would be:
click the book icon
Choose the tab of the maker of your DVD drive
Then choose your specific drive from the drop down
now you should see a few drop down menu's for setting the booktype.

The first on will be what type of disc you want to change, in your case it would be DVD+R DL
The next will be what to change it to, which is DVD-Rom
now hit the button to change it and you should get a pop up saying it was successful (that is if your burn CAN booktype)

Any BenQ drive that can use Q-Suite 2.0 software would make it easy. You select your drive in Q-Suite, set the booktype to DVD-Rom for the media (i set both DVD+R and DVD+R DL), and that is it. It will automaticaly booktype all DVD+R and DVD+R DL to DVD-Rom with any burning program you use all the time. No more manually setting it each time.

What if you have a burner that doesn't support book type. Does that mean it won't burn it successfully? Will isos burned with img burn in DL DVD+R not work unless they are burned as DVD-ROM?

no, they should work without booktyping. But booktyping REALLY helps with compatibility with all drives. DVD-Rom is the format that an original Xbox game would be in, which is why it helps to be able to booktype your DVD+R DL media and burn it as DVD-Rom.

And if your burner can not do it then it just can't. No real way around that other then a new burner. But i am pretty sure not everyone backing up games is booktyping them. It is just my personal preference to do it.

yeah i tried it and it said failed invalid command operation code ;( so i guess its time for a new burner. what should be a decent burner that would booktype with ease and be pretty good to burn games? and am i wasting my time because i need to booktype to dvd-rom so the games i burn play on hitachi drives.

that is what i have, you can get the Q-Suite 2.0 software i mentioned at the BenQ wesite for free and it will set the booktype the first time and burn all media that way.

I have also heard the Pioneer DVR 112D burners are good but you will have to check on the Booktyping part for that one. I know the 111D could booktype.

If you have the iExtreme firmware then booktyping and making sure the game is stealth should be the only things that would stop it from working.

When looking at the Booktyping options there are only about 5-6 brands listed. It did say something that these are OEM brands and not the name of the burner or something like that(and as an example they used Sony as being a Samsung OEM Burner). I have a Pioneer 111D Does anyone know what the OEM for this is. I think the only options I saw were. Ben-Q, Lite On, Plextor, Samsung and I forget the rest on imgburn.

Thanks Steimy, I was able to flash my drive correctly. Quick question, this doesn't have any affect on DVD-R media does it? Because I burn all my Wii and PS2 backups with DVD-R media. And couldn't find a way to convert it to DVD-Rom booktype. I guess it can only convert DVD+R to DVD-ROM.

correct, you an only booktype DVD+R type media, not DVD-R so it will have no effect on it at all.
