that thread that Chris pointed you to is a great one will give you everything you will need to get you going in the RIGHT direction.

some of them are pay programs and some are freeware. and i'd say everyone here at AD has all of these programs pay and free. it may seem like alot of stuff/and it is but they all are good and gets the job done right.

my personal prefrence is the pay programs from slysoft....

so the whole process for copying a movie for instance is-
first copy it to your hard drive.
then use a decrypter to convert the files from DVD file
then use something like NERO to burn them to disk?

After doing that will it play just like a normal movie? on the computer or in a dvd player??

You pretty much have the basics down, although there are programs you could use and dont have to copy the files to your hard drive at all. For example AnyDVD + Clone DVD or AnyDVD + Nero Recode or Shrink.
Here is a link to a guide that will walk you through the whole process step by step. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/494836

Aggrob

Basically, you need to decrypt the movie files from the original dvd to your hard drive before you can burn them. Once you have done that, if the total amount of space that the files consume is more than 4400mb (4.4gb) and you want to burn them to a single layer disc, you will need a program like Dvd Shrink to shrink the files down to fit onto a single layer disc before burning. I use a program called VobBlanker after ripping the files to the hard drive and before using Dvd Shrink to edit out the movie trailors, warnings, and other unwanted junk. Then, if need be I run them through Dvd Shrink and then burn them with Imgburn. All of these programs are FREE and work very well together! Here is a list of free programs to get you started.

1) Ripit4me (to rip the files)
2) DvdFab HD Decrypter (to rip the files)
3) Dvd Decrypter (also to rip with and works great w/ Ripit4me)
4) VobBlanker (edit out unwanted junk before burning)
5) Dvd Shrink (editing/shrinking)
6) Imgburn (final step, to burn with)

These are all great tools and will get the job done for you everytime. Ripit4me is not updated anymore but I haven't found a new release that it can't do yet. Like I said, these are all free. You can find links to all of these programs on my profile page if that helps. Any other questions, just ask. There are a lot of people here that are willing to help you, we were new at this at one time and needed the help also.
