Hey Guys.
Got a dilemna going......the guy that modded my NTSC-U Wii months ago is being a total d**k.
I want to play SMG but he says that he doesnt know which modchip was used and that his tech guy, says that their is a patch for $25 bucks that goes on top of the modchip, from what I heard he says the patch will only work with SMG and not all games! or I can wait till they come out with a better modchip that will work with all games......

So my question is how can I pass the middle man and find out what chip I have so I can update it and play SMG and not have any issues?
Keep in mind I dont know how to open the Wii, and I dont want to brick it.

Thx Fellas

Thanks for all the help!

Only way is to open it up.

And don't pay for a patch that you can easily download lol. Stop talking with the modder- he is ripping you off.

only way is to open it unfortunately. even if the installer is a tool, he might tell you the wrong chip just to screw with you. it's not that hard to open it up. just read the instructions and follow them closely. you wont brick the Wii if you read and follow instructions on how to open it.

if you're still uncomfortable in opening the Wii, keep trying to ask the installer or you may have to buy the game.

There are guides out there that will tell you how to open up the Wii. Just follow that and see what chips is installed.

So even if I open it up find out what chip is installed and find that its a "wiikey" I got to the site and it will give me a handsdown guide to update/patch the chip?

and since im on a MacBook Pro their really isnt any software to help me with that regionfrii etc? or will the SMG work perfectly?

thx

Thanks for all the help!

Yes if it's a Wiikey then download the 1.9g update and burn the .iso. I think ImgBurn is Mac compatible...I think. Just use any burning program that is compatible and burn at 4X using GOOD media.

You don't need to use RegionFrii if the game is the same region as your Wii.

You could plug in you Wii system serial number here:

http://nintendo-scene.com/wiitracker/search.php

It will tell you "probably" what chip you have in your Wii system

That's for finding out what chip your Wii has, not modchip.

hey guys.
IM BACK lol

I tryed oppening up my wii and the problem came up that I have no Tri Wing Screwdriver.....and my question is?

If i use the wiikey or cyclowiz or wiinja updater and insert it into the wii would anything happen if it is not the actual modchip? or would the actual chip recognize the updater?

thx

Thanks for all the help!

oh yea, forgot to tell you that you need a tri-wing screwdriver to open the Wii lol

as far as blindly trying to update the chip, I would think that if you used an update disc that wasn't for the mod chip, nothing would happen since the chips have different codes on them. Someone can chime in and confirm this, but this is what I gathered from reading other forums about it.

You don't need a tri wing screw driver. If you have the small set of screw drivers, you can use the standard screwdriver to get the tri wing out. I've done it before. After that I ordered one for about $5.00.

See? it wasn't so hard to open and find out lol too bad I'm not familiar with Wiinja or the open source mods myself. I have a wiikey clone. I'm sure there are those who will be more than happy to help you. There is a SMG fix for the wiinja and OpenWii (an open source mod chip). That much I do know.

good luck

well guys im back and I have come to realize that after inserting the wiinja update my drive doesnt recognize it. My chip is not OpenWii since I saw a image of OpenWii and it looks like it has more then 4 pins on both sides.

I guess im kinda screwed, I would LOVE for someone here to give me a hand since this modser that did it for me is screwing me for another 25 bucks.

really blows. PM me ur Yahoo or AoL name if someone is so kind.

Thanks for all the help!

have you tried posting the pic of the chip on other forums? Might be able to help you further with your problem. There can't be that many different opensource chips out there. Here is a list of all the chips made for the Wii.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wii_modchips

They don't have pics on there so you'll have to Google for the pics. There are alot of other sites that have experts on opensource chips. Good luck.

Also what does the number say on the chip? Something like 12F629? That's what a Wiifree chip is
