hello everyone. okay so i bought an open item hdtv from bestbuy which was the samsung LNT4042H and when i plugged it home along with my 360, i got the 3 red lights (which was the first time ever). my hdtv however had like purple/red/white lines going on it so i returned it. then i got a new sony bravia kdl-40s000, but still i kept getting the 3 red lights. i kept trying to get hdtv on my 360 for both tv's (moving the component plugs around but i wasnt able to get it, no biggie though but just wanted to point that out). my 360 was manufactured 10-26-2005. any help? did i get the 3 red light b/c of possibly the hdtv? after a half hr, it goes back to normal but then i get the 3 red lights again.

Try this. Plug the 360 into an outlet away from the one the hdtv is plugged into. also do not plug your 360 into a UPS or strip. Sometimes when too much power is being pulled you will get a split second brown out and cause the 360 to turn off for a spliut second and come back with the 3 rings of death. Anyone can give the 360 a 3 rings by simply unplugging the 360 and quickly plugging it back into the wall. Bammo 3 rings. Usually will not hurt the system but of course can. Let me kow if this helps at all.

oh yeah, i rememeber i also plugged my 360 in a power strip when i got the 3 red lights. i didnt have an outlet around since i plugged the 360 in a strip before. but i guess this time, there was too much power going around. i tried plugging my 360 into a different outlet but same thing, i still get the 3 red lights.

the total time frame is 1 month. 1 week for them to ship the box to you, 1 week it takes for them to recieve the box from you(after u have packaged ur xbox), 1 week for them them to repair it, and one week for them to ship it back to you. total 1 month.

o ya repairing it doenst mean they will permanently fix it once and for good, it's just a temporarily repair. same thing happend to my friend, he had to send his xbox 360 back like 5 times and the problem hasnt been permanently resolved.

yeah, the repair is a slow process. I have a friend who is working on his 5th repair now as well. Hope this one will last him. And there is about a 90% chance the box you get back will be a refurbished one and not the one you sent them. But you really do not have much of a choice on the matter.

oh damn that sucks, 5 times... but while i wait for the box, are there any methods i can use myself to repair it? Would the towel-method be effective..?

Whats up with you people?
Why do you want to atempt the repairs yourself?
If you would be able to do it you wouldn't ask such stupid questions here in the first place. So unless you want to void your warranty just send it in for repairs.

Because M$ is not fixing the problem... Its a design Flaw w/ the x-clamps... If M$ sends you a refurbished box then its just a matter of time before it craps out again... So why not fix it the right way? Eventually your 3 year warranty will be gone... then what are u gonna do? Pay M$ $129.99 to fix it?

It's not a design flaw with the clamps it's a design flaw with the system itself (CPU, GPU, Memory etc.) as it is more than one thing that can cause RROD. After I did my Xclamps it still RROD so I had to do the penny mod also and if it does it again (hopefully not) I will have to do some of Llamma's mods. After that I won't even bother...Thank God I didn't pay anything for my 360, then I would really be upset.

Send the xbox back to M$!!! At least you know that if it happens again you can always send it back ... I sent mine in, got it back several weeks later, and I haven't had a single problem with it since ... why the heck would you break your warranty to attempt to fix a problem when you can just send it back and have it fixed for good ... AND still keep your warranty?! And if it happens again, whatever, just send it back again, big deal, at least it isn't costing you anything!

true that, i wont tamper with anything then. I'll deal microsoft deal with it then. The only reason I was asking if I myself could do the repairs becasue I heard a few success stories in doing it yourself and didn't wanna have more messed up consoles ship in to me . But ill just send it in to microsoft. thanks for all your responses.

okay just wanted to say that after a month, i got my console back. it says its a "replacement console" and looks brand new considering the mfg date for this 360 is 11-27-07. Plus, they sent a 1 month free xbox live gold card! so i was really satisfied and appreciate Microsoft's customer support.

Send it in and have it fixed for good.. but at least if it does it again, you can always send it back... Do you realize that you say sending it in will fix it for good, but then people dont have to worry because next time it does it, they can send it in again? Also, a month turnaround for people who have repeat offending consoles.. well that kinda sucks.

Ok, thats one point. Next point is, this forum is all about modding the consoles.. so most people around here already have modded their console, and technically voided the warranty. Its not costing people a thing... except months of not being able to play their system.

It took you a month to come up with that? Big deal what this forum is about ... modding to play "backups" is illegal anyways - its in the terms you agree to when you buy an xbox - thus the reason why MS bans people who use modded xbox on live! Regardless, I haven't heard of anyone who mods their consoles and has a perfect fix for the RROD - at least sending it in to MS gaurantees that for at least 3 years you won't have to mess with it! Chill man ... big flippin' deal ... if this was ONLY about modding your xbox, why is the title "general discussion" for this forum for the xbox section?
