N00bish question, I have most of my discs burned at 1x on verbatim discs, want to make a bunch of backup copies, do i need original image or will a direct copy of a copy work on in a modded wii w/ wiikey?

Yes you can backup copied games.

I'm quite sure that you can just do a direct copy from one disc o another

Direct copies will work. But I suggest speeding up that burn speed to 4x. Sometimes burning to slow can cause as much problems as burning to fast would do.
