I have had my wii modded with a wiikey since the summer and have never had too many problems downloading and burning games. I always use disc utility, and I do it by going to File>Open Disc Image> then I select the iso from its folder. It attaches, I put in a DVD, and burn it, usually at 1x or 2x on a Verbatim 16x DVD-R.
Ever since I upgraded my Mac to Leopard OS X, disc utility has been funky. Whenever I go to open a disc image and select the iso, I get the error message
"Unable to attach "discimage.iso" (No mountable file systems)"
Now I realize that Macs can't mount Wii isos, but this is the way that I've always done it and it has always worked.
I recently tried just going to Images>Burn> and then selecting the iso and burning it. The game did burn, but when I put it into my wii the intro screen popped up but the game wouldn't load, it only played the first screen or so. (Guitar Hero 3)
I've been downloading my games on TL, so I know that they are scene releases and good quality. Before I got Leopard every game worked for me (Except Metroid). Now I've tried Manhunt 2 and Guitar Hero 3 and neither have worked.
