CRIA threats lead to shutdown of Demonoid site

Visitors to BitTorrent Tracker site Demonoid.com over the last several hours have been greeted by the following message:
"The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding."

I was apart of the paying community until they shut down. This is going to be tough for us. Demonoid servers should go off world like slysoft as an example.

i agree everyone bitches at canada, thats why whey are threatening demonoid. canada is a pirates heaven, and everyone is mad, so the CRIA are just trying to please everyone else, i mean, our country( i live in canada to) is like in the top 10 (i think its like 4th or 5th) top places to live, whats the US, like 40th, people just want to make everyone hate canada by shouting we have all this piracy, so in return we are trying to get rid of it so everyone shuts they're mouths

I agree 100% with everything you said. Demonoid was like a family, where you could share thoughts, exchange ideas, and not worry about someone being a d*ck. There may be 10 more sites pop up after this, but there will only be one Demonoid.

also when i download any torrents it maxes out at 120kbs, is there any way to make that speed any higher (like including paying my ISP if that is even possible or if its even related to them at all) also im currently downloading all the south park episodes (which takes a long long time) so metime its going strong at 120kbs, and other times it will go as low as 20kbs, and i was wondering if this is normal, like i know that it will move around a few kbps but 100 i think thats a bit much, any suggestions?

It's ignorant! Like MightyOne and camaro17 said the CRIA is just trying to please everyone but in the processes killing the community known as demonoid.com! it's not a pirate paradise, it's a community of well to do people who would share ideas, how to's (in my case), and even "share" media! btw, did anyone read at the bottom of demonoid? the disclaimer? now i cant remember it word for word, but i think it went something along the lines of, "The files shown here are not hosted on our servers. These files are provided solely by our users and the moderation to the site is also provided by our users. Hosting files you don't have the copyright to/without the copyright holders expressed consent on here, you do so at your own risk."
i have a question the CRIA, RIAA, or other organizations of Anti-Fun, why do you shutdown torrent sites? is it because of their users files that ARE NOT even hosted on the servers you shutdown? or is it because of the tracker, which anyone with half a brain can make?
Demonoid will return someday... i know they will...

I've been using demonoid for sometime here in NZ. i have a good feeling that they will return.
Demonoid is a good site, i hope things turn out for the best :-)

Ok as a Canadian that was blocked out several weeks ago' the only upside to this issue involving demonoid is that they will move out of canada and then resume operations and full access back to canadian's who fileshare ever since we were blocked out the only way back into demonoid was with a proxy and this was a friggan pain in the ass. My personal opion is that there is other forces than the cria at work here, I did some research and found out the following.
1. The CRIA has only been interested in the selling on music and they are mainly focused at pirating for profit they have tried in the past to sue individuals who download with NO success.
2. They have not taken any credit OR acknowledged any lawsuits or pressure put on demonoid.
3. The only reason that Demonoid moved to Canada was to because we are one of the few countries that accepts that downloading copyright material is legal(uploading is not).
4. Earlier when canadians were banned from using demonoid (THIS IS WHERE THE CRIA WAS SATISFIED) and because we were banned this should have let demonoid operate with out any more obstruction in this country BECAUSE the canadian public was not involved anymore.
My educated guess is that the RIAA and the MPAA are putting pressure and funds north to the CRIA in the hopes to eradicate DEMONOID permanently. BUT the bottom line is that this was a BLUFF by the CRIA and DEMONOID folded faster than a 5$ lawn chair. I think that the thought of a big long lasting lawsuit scared the S#$T out of demonoid. Even though I think in the long run, the canadian laws would protect demonoid and they would win.

Canada aint perfect. I'm in Ontario and can say it ain't. There are..what..35 million Canadians. There are 260 million Americans. Its just common sense that there will be far more public busts in the U.S. that get exposure.
And yeah..Canada has universal health care (dental is not covered)..but not much in the way of special forces. If Canada is ever invaded by the Chinese...guess who the first will get the call for help....The U.S.A. (Fort Bragg will probably get it before anyone!).

Crikey Windsong, you would be better off with the Chinese than the yanks (past tense of jerk offs).
Why aren't Canadians training special forces moose and caribou to invade and stomp the wasps? The bison would join in too they owe the white fellas a thing or two.
The speed with which Demonoid "folded" is a matter for conjecture only at present. But i sort of have a feeling that the good ship Demonoid had a few life boats tucked away. (No, i don't know anything special, i am an optimist, is all).

I agree with everyone here.. Demonoid is the best place here on earth. User friendly and i have met some of my best friends now through demonoid not to mention help that came easy through the forum... I have yet to find another site where you can post a question and someone actually responds to you via PM!! I miss demonoid and hope to see it back...Deimos' site was a mover, shaker and ground breaker!!!

On a purely selfish note: It does totally blow to be halfway done and getting stuck!!! But yet again - It was fun while it lasted. I was heart broken not just because some of the files stopped, but the medium to speak to the friends I have there is gone.. "tear"...

d@mnit, D* has a few torrents i wanted to complete. I hope all those files i kept on the HDD allow me to bring my ratio back someday. It would a total shame to waste all that time seeding just for nothing. the CRIA broke my ratio...i'm gonna sue them!!
