Ok so I did some searching around and I've seen many variations of this question but none that really help me in what I am trying to do.

So my buddy asked me to burn him a completely legit backup copy of a movie he purchased at full price..rofl

I've done it the right way many times before with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink but I wasn't thinking clearly and I've found myself in a jam.

I ripped the core video files from the DVD and gave it back to him. I just grabbed the 5 or so .VOB files that make up the movie. No copy protection so it just copied to my HDD. I brought them to work (external ftw) and here I only have Roxio burning software. It's almost like Roxio doesn't even recognize them. I've been reading around about the various files from the VIDEO_TS folder that accompany your .vob files but I didn't grab any of them.

This is actually a first for me, I've never done it this way before. Are these .vob files useless without the other files in the VIDEO_TS folder? Or is there a way to convert them to regular video files and just burn them?

VOB files are the video and audio of the movie.. you need the IFO, BUP files, too. These files tell the player how to play the VOBs and in what order and also has information on the audio so it plays correctly ..... it's part of the DVD structure! Use this program called FixVTS:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FixVTS.htm
you can drag and drop each VOB file into the program or hit OPEN button and navigate to where you VOB files are and pick the first VOB file then hit FULL DVD. Hit Continue when it asks if you can to and let FixVTS make new IFOs and BUPs for your DVD! then you should be able to burn to disk properly as you're used to.

@IHoe
Does FixVTS not need an IFO file to work with?
In this case it would appear there are only the .VOB files.

I thought that all you need is VOBs to use FixVTS where it makes new IFOs...... I could be wrong.

I'm going to try it on some VOB files.

@attar....... I see that it doesn't make new IFOs or BUPs if you just have VOBs....... sorry I was wrong.

I can't make it work that way either.

@Soloflyer
If you read the guide that comes with DVD Flick, it mentions how to merge identical files (which would be a group of VOB's from the same movie)into one title.
It then creates the DVD folder.
It's straightforward and quite fast.

Thanks for all your help I'll try your suggestions. I was finally able to burn it with Nero but I had to make my own chapters and menu, which is fine but it looks kind of ghetto.
