Can the type of burnable media used ruin an xbox laser?

let me get right to the point... a few weeks ago my xbox 360 went to crap (like everyone else's on the planet ha ha), but the problem was i had it modded so i couldnt take it back. well anyways it just stopped reading games, dvds and cds all together. it still worked as far as accessing the hard drive but just wouldnt read any type of disc. so i got it fixed and the guy who fixed it said that i needed a new laser. he said that the laser was probably damaged from the strain of trying to read low quality media. so my question is this, is that possible? do you think that it was because of low quality burnable media or because the laser just had flaws from the get go and eventually would need to be replaced? any input would be greatly appreciated. also i use memorex DL dvds. thanks

Yes and throw out those memorex's. Buy some Verbatims at officemax or bestbuy or newegg.com. Many believe they are as good as originals.

just curious, how long have you had your xbox modded and was using the backup discs(memorex)? And how long did you regularly play xbox?

well i got it modded in may and i played it pretty regularly... at least 3 or 4 hours every 2 days. sometimes as many as 7-10 hours everyday.

wow im using those memorex lol almost half of my backups are on these ;/ i will have to redownload all files :D
btw where do you guiys download games ? newsgroups torrents ?

well im going to try a little experiment... im sure there is some validity to the crappy media thing but all of my ps2 backups are on memorex also and its ran fine for years and years. so i think i will give it another go and if it screws up again i will certainly change my media, or if i run out of memorex discs... which ever comes first. oh and dont ask where to download stuff on here its illegal. just google it.

Yea, i always used memorex and hearing about all these different things about cheap media ruining your burners and 360 lasers makes me think twice. But I havent had a problem yet with memorex so i guess i will do the same. Thanks for the feedback
