I'm about to buy an 80 gig Playstation3 from some guy. Are there any certain models or anything I should stay away from?

depending on your style of playing but ill summarize it for u with detail in part 1 and the shorter version in part 2

part 1
20GB Not in production but still available if the store has it.
No wifi but it has full backwards compatible for ps1 and ps2 games.

I would say you should get this system if there isn't a 60gb,80gb system in the store or ur short on money.

40gb is the newest sku and unless ur short on money it is also a good purchase. Does everything the others do except play ps2 games since they took out the hardware to do it. So unless ur not planning to play ps2 games or already have a ps2 (like i do) this is a good buy and cheaper.

60gb this is to me the king of all systems because it has everything memory card slots,ps1,ps2 backwards compatible and wifi. This unit is not in production but u can probably find them in stores.

80gb is the 2nd choice if ur getting it. It has everything the 60gb has except they took out the hardware to play backwards compatible. So it came from 98% backwards compatible to (i believe not sure though) %85 persent. But it has been promised that all big name games work on it. And it comes bundled with motorstorm game for free which is nice.

part 2
And in case u didn't want to read all that ill summarize it for u

60gb>80gb>20gb>40gb (if playing ps2 games is important to you
or
60gb>80gb>40gb>20gb (if playing ps2 is not important to you

o my mystake i thought you were asking wich version should you get mybad

any certain models to stay away from no it is not a 360(failure rate over 30 percent.

Ps3 (failure rate 0.02 percent , standard in electronics i would say)

And if anyone gets offended by this post guess what i have both systems got the 360 december of 06 and the ps3 in february of 07 not that much far apart.

I am on my 4th system
1st system: the 3 red light (dont know y but still)

2nd system: it was scratching my games (and no i didn't not move it)

3rd system: the video card wanst working properly after 1 week of use. the colors would fade, or just show black and white in the menu probably defective but still that was 4 weeks of waithing and then another for 4 weeks for my 4th replacement.

4th system: is working and no problem so i hope it can last

Actually that is better than most electronics standards.

AFAIK none of the PS3 models come with an HDMI cable included, you'll have to buy it yourself.
