Okay,I'll try to make this as detailed as possible, because it's driving me insane! I had a phat PSP with OFW 3.71. Figured I couldn't downgrade it like it was, so i hardmodded the battery by unsoldering the pin on the battery (PANDORA). My problem is creating the Magic Memory Stick, because as it stands, when I put in the battery, it lights only the green light (wi-fi and MS NOT lit). If I power on using AC adapter and THEN insert the Pandora Battery, the light turns amber and will always show 100% battery life. Anyway, I've tried many different ways to install the MMS, using 3 different programs plus manual installation (mspformat.exe and all that fun stuff) but generally i get to the point where 4 programs get copied to the memory stick - 2 which say Corrupted Data, "Pandora's Battery Creator" and
"Pandora's Battery Firm. Installer". Okay, all well and good, but when I try to run the programs (on AC power, with or without battery inserted) I get "The game could not be started (8002014C)".
Somebody PLEASE help me, because i've searched every message board and tried every possible option. What am i doing wrong???

P.S. Sorry for the n00bishness <--word?

^^Not true, I think...
I'm sure there's an .exe program to make the custom IPL on the computer now, so you just have to solder the battery and place the files on the memory stick.

Creating A Magic Memory Stick, steps

1)Turn on the psp
2)Format the memory stick
3)Go into USB mode
4)Next, go here: http://dl.qj.net/TOTALNewbi-easyInstalle...14749/catid/193
5)At the bottom, select download (the dowload is 135MB so be patient)
6)Extract the application to your desktop
7)Run "Start.exe"
8)Follow the instructions until you get into the installation screen
9)When there, you can select to install the universal unbricker (do this one!!!)
10)After it is done, your going to need to get 2 files. 1)registry 2)kd (i have a download link at the bottom for people without this)
11)Put both (kd & registry) on the root of your memery stick
12)Disconnect your psp and turn it off

I havent tried this.

Might I suggest using the UPMS easy installer for your memory stick?

Have a look HERE

If you already have a battery made up then just skip that step in the installer..(#2)

I have mine on a 1GB-you would need at least a 256MB to have the setup I linked to in my earlier post...when its all put togetherm it takes up about 200MB's

okay, problem with UPMS is that i don't know a soul with a CFW PSP, so that wouldn't be an option for me. The Memory Stick is 1GB, so thats not the problem. The biggest issue seems to be that the PSP won't let me run the programs once they're installed (Pandora's GUI 1.5 worked perfectly up until that point). With TOTALnewbi, it was sector size or w/e.

Okay, here's what it says when I try TOTALnewbi:

Target DRIVE is 1
Check partition sector
boot status 0x80
start head 0x0F
start sec/cyl 0x0006
partition type 0x06
last head 0x1F
last sec/cyl 0xC0E0
abs sector 0x000001E5
ttl sector 0x000F021B
signature 0xAAFF
Check BPB Sector
signature AA55
Check free reserved sector:too small reserved sectors
Press any key to continue:

And then it goes to the "credits"

It does the same thing on options 1, 2 and 4.

Also, should I be inserting the Pandora Battery any time in this process? I tried while using the programs installed by Pandoras GUI, but it didn't work....

^^My apologies, I forgot you were still using official firmware..
Well since you have a battery already made..I will then suggest using the memory stick guide which can be found HERE

Seeing that you already have the battery, you can skip the steps for battery creation. But you need to get that firm installer to work, thats what writes the IPL to your memory stick, so you can use it in conjunction with the battery.

Another question-What folder are you placing the firm.installer and the pandora battery creator sub-folders into? The GAME folder correct?

just a question - I'm 99% sure that I didn't, but if I HAD touched pins 5 and 6 together while unsoldering the pin, it wouldn't light the green light, would it? That green light is a sign that the Pandora Battery was made correctly, right?

I'm in the process.... I'm running Vista Premium, so i need to find a way around that, b/c obviously Vista is incompatible with mspformat.exe. Trying an XP Virtual Machine, maybe that will work... but the guide you sent me seems like it still requires CFW or 1.5?

I FINALLY got it working, guys! Thanx so much for all of your help!
On a seperate note, this would be a solution for everybody who is using Windows Vista: http://www.vmware.com Unfortunately, you'll need a copy of Windows XP to activate the virtual console, but it emulates XP 100%... i'm sure people can find a torrent for a copy of XP... But anyway, I have one more question (hopefully the last).

Now that I'm on 3.71 M33, should I downgrade to 1.5 if possible? How would I do that? And whenever I turn on the PSP with the battery in, it goes to the installation menu. Do i need to get a new one to make the PSP portable again?

Glad to hear you got it working...

If you got your psp to 3.71M33, there is no need to downgrade to 1.50..However you will need to add the 1.50 kernel patch to your firmware so you can run homebrew that requires it. (1.50)

Thanx alot. I'm now running 3.71 M33-3 with the two add-ons. Got a new battery ($20 for the hi-capacity at Gamestop with AC and car chargers!!!!), so I'm portable again. Can't figure out how to get emulators working though... either showing Corrupted Data or "the game could not be started"... I've tried switching the kernel between 3.71 and 1.5, but that didn't work out... any suggestions?

Depending on the emulator-you should maybe put the emulator folders into a different folder...I would put them in the GAME folder-I know for me nesterJ(NES) only works when I put it in the GAME folder..And normally your emulators would just go into either the GAME or GAME150..

Not a problem-I am glad you got it worked out...

Yeah, the 512MB wont cut it for games and whatnot-A stick of that size is about only good for a pandora setup...
