I got two Lite-On SHW-160P6SU06C drives and RiDATA 8X DVD +R DL (Taiwan) discs. I am using these on different laptops running XP Pro and Home. The drives will not recognize the discs. Tried contacting Lite-On but they just say the disc needs to be formatted before burning. Is this correct????
I am using DVD Shrink 3.2 with DVD Decrypter or DVDFab Plat for my backup software on both computers.
The problem seems to be in the DL writer which will not recognize these discs. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Carl

Thank you, but that link did not have anything which would load to the drives I have. I did find an upgrade for the firmware but I already have the latest firmware for these drives.
Any other suggestions?
Again, Thanks
Carl

Another hint, as the burning program, try imgburn (really works well on dvd+r dl) from www.imgburn.com it's free. There are guides here at AD to help you utilize imgburn.

Thank you, but it does not seem to make any difference which program I use, if the LiteOn does not see the disc, no program will burn to an empty burner.
Thanks for trying.

Your Lite-on's don't like Ridata, try Verbatims.

Sooooo I cannot use the RiData with these drives. OK, I will get some Verbatim discs and see how it goes.

I looked at the forums here to find inexpensive DL burners but did not see that these will not work with my favorite brand of disc. Have 10 new coasters and just hope Newegg will take back the unopened cakes. Should I can the Lite-Ons' and try another brand?
If I want a DL which is going to burn fast and leave coasters in my distant memory, where should I look? I have had good results with SL using Plextor, and several other brands. HD and BluRay are still duking it out and I do not want to get into that battle again, so just plain old DVD9 for me.
Thanks for your help.

All burners are inexpensive these days. It's been awhile since I heard someone refer to Ritek as their favorite brand. At one time they made great media, but today... ?

Did not know RiData had quality problems now. I have not made coasters for a long time using them.

But going into the DL upgrade, which burners will give me the fastest and highest quality? I assume that Verbatim is the disk of choice today, or is that incorrect also.
Thanks,
Carl
