Can Original Super Mario Galaxy be played on modchiped console?

Or do the error message come regardless of the game being original?
Also, is there an update on the original disk?

Originals should always work on chipped consoles provided they of the same type - eg. PAL original should work on PAL console. To run NTSC on PAL the modchip will need to have firmware that allows this regardless of whether or not the game is an original.

There is an update on the original disk and it's fine as long as the disk is for your console... again PAL for PAL etc. There are some issues when updating a PAL console with an NTSC disk and vice versa. Check other threads in this section for all the necessary info.

So the original disk won't be able to tell that there's a chip on the console and give the Illegal Device error?

The error does not mean that it has detected a chip, it just detects that the disc is not original.

Yes if you have an original SMG then you can play it on a chipped console with no problems.

Hi,
thanks for all the info.

If I have an original SMG (NTSC) on a NTSC Wii w/ wiikey. Do i need to update to 1.9g as well ?

Not as long as the disk is from the same region - eg. USA disk for USA machine or Japanese disk for Japanese machine etc.
