Also I download a config cd and get the same message. What am I doing wrong? am i missing a step? Please help because these dvd coasters are getting expensive

I olny have a dvd + R burner. I guess that means i have to buy a new one. Is there some type of firmware that i can use to burn dvd-r?

you'd have to go see if the manufacturer of your burner has a firmware update but I'd just go buy a new burner if I was you - they aren't too expensive and then you have more options when it comes to media. I've had results with -r, +rw and -rw but never ever burned any +r for anything... just never needed to really.

When I did my install, all I got was 'unable to read disc'.

I had done a WiiKey short wire install. Somehow it didn't work. I switched to a long wire install, and it worked perfectly. Easier to try than spending $$ on a new dvd burner.

I've been using dvd+r for all of my back ups. Never had a problem with them. Some say the Wii is picky about media type, but I haven't had problems with dvd+r or -r. try a different brand of dvd+r media? I'm using Verbatim

I have no clue how to mod a wii. I got someone to do it for me. How can I check to see if the wii key even works.
