Practice lots on a junk network card. Remember to tin the iron, or put a small small drop of solder on the iron to heat things up. Heat gets to the pads via solder - not via the iron alone.

Brick coming... it's too big and clumsy. Never mind practice.. if you haven't soldered before, the inside of a £200 piece of micro-electronics isn't the place to learn.

You can buy a very small needle point iron tip (antex make great ones) and fit it on the monster copper bar that is doing duty now.. That may take a little longer to get up to heat, but at least you will be able to heat just one point, not burn everything within a 5mm radius.
I use a 12 watt antex needelepoint iron for any board connected pads, and a 30 watt cheapo for xbox pinheaders and general soldering.. BUT.. I have been soldering for 30 years, so I think that makes me rather skilled at it.

thanks just have to get it off, used a friends 15w soldering iron to do a wireless install but not very good will do it again with long wire. It just plays originals at the mo, Thanks

30 Amp, thats 6.6Kw (in the uk) !!!
Thats an arc welder, not a soldering iron isnt it ?
