if i flash my 360 without stealth firmware, such as iextreme, is the worse thing that will happen is me being banned from live, and if I flash with non stealth firmware will I a) be able to get downloadable content on backups b) during updates will my 360 get bricked in any way? Thanks!

the difference between the newer and older firmware is that the older firmware will allow you to play games that are not stealth patched and the newer firmware will not. Which is a good thing because you should not play any games on your system that are not stealth patched unless you have no plans to get Xbox Live.

The other two questions make no real sense. Downloadable content is making a back up, no different then making them yourself. If your talking about downloadable content from XBL then yes, because that is stored on the hard drive and works with both originals and back ups.

And will your system get bricked? NO. If it does it is most likely the 360 itself and not the back up game that did it. Unless of course you use cheap DVD's and it wears out your laser.
