These were the steps that I made:

Turn on both PC and 360 on at same time (have SATA Plugged in the SATA Card, NOT THE 360 yet)

When booting into DOS, you can then plug the SATA into the back of the 360!

get to the Directory where IPREP is, and do idump 123456 12345 (where 123456 12345 is the Serial Number on your 360)

It should bring up your Drives that are connected and one should say Xtreme (that is the 360!)!

Turn off your 360 Now, and then press the number that is next to the Xtreme Drive!

Wait 10 Seconds...

Turn on after 10 seconds and it should start dumping your Firmware! When it's done it should say to Reboot the PC!

You have successfully dumped the Original Firmware!

Now to Flash the Drive with the Hacked Firmware, you do the same process, only when you get to where you type in iDump, you type in iFlash instead!

Follow the same process and it should Flash it!

Hope this helps!

This was using the iXtreme Firmware, which is what I recommend you use! The newest one for the ms28 is the iXtreme Firmware 1.3

Follow this tutorial. Don't worry about the unspported fw message. After you format your bootdisk, delete everything on it except for te mtkflash.exe and the mtkflash.typ files

Then follow the rest of the tutorial.

If it's compatible with your mobo and drive (not sure with the ms28), try using dosflash16 from the 1.3 beta version. It identifies, reads/erases/writes and does all the dirty work pretty much automatically. Worked for me after I made a proper win98 boot disk with the dosflash files on it.

I had the 360 plugged into a sata port at all times and it worked. I'd be kinda careful about hot plugging anything in while the PC is turned on, seems kinda risky. I did disconnect all the IDE devices and sata hard drive power cables just so the PC would only detect the 360 drive when I was ready to read/flash. Worked fine and didn't take long at all.

I'm waiting for parts but.. the timing on the 10 second trick is variable.. anywhere between 4-20 seconds.

From what I have been reading any firmware later than 5.0 is locked, and on a samsung with ms28 the idump and iflash apparently won't work.. it must be mtkflash..

The issue I have is a drive that is giving all the bad flash symptoms after reading the firmware !! that shouldn't happen, so if using the 0800 mode disk watch out.

I would advise if possible booting from a usb drive rather than unreliable floppies.

Should have more info later in the week when the required parts finally arrive.

Look man, boot to DOS with the 360 turned on and the SATA cable plugged into the first SATA port on the 6421. This port is the one that's the furthest away from the holder plate.

When you boot into dos type
mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin

Hit Enter and when you see xtreme primary turn the 360 off. Select "xtreme primary" and count to ten then turn the 360 back on. It will then read the firmware.

You do the same with reflashing except the command is
mtkflash w /m /sata *hacked.bin*
