I recently bought a wii and a wiikey and had a friend of mine install it. He has done many mod chips before including quite a few wiis. For some reason he said it's not working, is it possible the key is bad. It will still after install boot real games but not any backups or the setup disk. Is there anything I could try to see for sure if it's the wiikey?

you just bought a Wii, so it could be a D2C chipset in there. Wiikeys will not work with those. You'll need a D2Ckey for that. Open it back up and check it.

yep d2c was the problem, so I traded a friend for an older one he never plans on modding :)
