Hi.

I bought "Swap Magic Plus 3" (v3.6) with the Magic Key 2 set. I have a black slim ps2. I'm not sure what model it is but I can tell you that it does not have the little metal plate that covers up the opening at the back which the higher models have. I would also like to mention that it says on the packaging that it supports ALL models of the PS2/PS2 Slim.

When it arrived it contained 2x MK1 tools and 2x MK2 tools. Its alright becuase I know how to use them both.

Bottom Right = MK1 tool.
Top Right = MK2 tool.
Top Left = MK1 tool. (I was also given a MK2 but didn't use that one because it was more fiddly to put it.)

I booted up a normal ps2 game. It loaded fine. I lifted up the cover a little bit and saw the disc was still spinning, just like if it was closed. Perfect - it appears the tools work. I turned the ps2 off and took the original disc out. Now i'm ready for the swap discs.

I inserted the DVD swap magic disc. The ps2 loads it up fine and I reach the main menu. There are 2 options - LOAD PROGRAM and VIDEO MODE (set to normal).

*It is LOAD PROGRAM not LOAD GAME as many others have talked about.

I click on LOAD PROGRAM. The screen goes red. It only lasts for about half a second and then goes black. After a second of black screen the main menu loads back up. I'm now back at the start. I've read that it should display a SWAP SCREEN. It does not.

I click on LOAD PROGRAM again and it does the same thing. Only this time it loads up the screen showing the memorycard and a dvd icon. The disc is still spinning when I open up to check. I could try put in the backup game which i've prepared ready but I don't want to get a face full of direct laser. I like to keep my eyes from being blind. So I click on the dvd icon and it loads the swap magic menu again.

Now.. I click LOAD PROGRAM again and it comes up with a "Not a valid PS2 disc". At this point I have no idea whats going on. I've even also tried swapping the backup in before and after pressing the LOAD PROGRAM. Nothing works! And again ... I get no Swap Screen at all.

Before you ask. I have tried the swap magic CD way. That does nothing at all. I get no refresh message or anything. It just does nothing.

Thanks for any help to come.

Edit: I don't know if this is possible but on the packaging it also says you can load programs from a USB pendrive. I was wondering if its possible to load a ps2 backup directly from that. Any info on this would be great. Thanks. This also makes me wonder if this is the problem all along. The fact that it says LOAD PROGRAM and not LOAD GAME. Maybe its for loading a program off the usb and not the backup game on dvd/cd. If that is the reason then its a crying shame because theres no LOAD GAME anywhere in the menu.

Edit2: I have tried swapping the backup with the swap magic disc when at the memorycard screen. I closed my eyes and swapped them. The swap disc was spinning so wasn't easy to replace with the backup but I did it in the end. All I get is the playstation saying to insert a ps2 format game. Also the swap magic CD version does the same thing as the DVD version except from it goes directly to memorycard screen instead of going back to main menu first.

PS. I understand some of you will tell me that its most likly to do with the backup i'm using. But to be honest I don't think it is. Considering I don't even get to a SWAP SCREEN part of the Swap Magic to even try it.

I don't know if this is worth asking but would maybe the Swap Magic Coder work better than the normal Swap Magic Plus? I know it allows the use of action reply codes but would you think it be any better to get working than the normal?

I have found the model number = SCPH-70003. I have a V12 PS2 Slim.

I will also like to say that the description on the back says:
"Enables playing of import games on PS2 (Includes support for the latest V10 boards)."

Does this mean I have been given a fatty PS2 Swap Magic 3.6? Or becuase it is version 3.6 that it doesn't matter? No where on the packaging does it say anything to do with V12 to V14 or PStwo (Slim). Even though it was clearly stated in the description on the website I bought it from.

PLEASE CLOSE THREAD. I have solved my problem!

I'm such a noob (and retard). It was so obvious.

Heres the steps I found from the offical swap magic website. Just incase there are other idiots out there like me.

1. Insert a Swap Magic 3 Disc in your PlayStation2 (CD is for booting CD backups/import games. DVD version is for booting DVD backups/import games)
2. When there are two options (Load Program and Video Mode) on the screen, that is the time to swap the disc. ** [ you need to install the tools ( eg. magic switch, fliptop , slide tools ) to enable the console not to reset while swaping the disc ]
3. Insert your CD or DVD backup
4. Use Flip Top Cover or Slide-Tool to put the CD tray back
5. Press X on joy pad and the game will start

Basically you swap the discs BEFORE you press anything. I did this before and it didn't run. But i've tried it again just now and it works this time. I'm guessing its a hit or miss every time. I dunno. Working now so i'm really glad. Cyas.
