Crazy exploit idea

Hi,
I've been using swap magic to play my backup discs for a while, but I think it's a bothersome procedure to do at every boot.
So I got a crazy idea. When you boot the PS2 it reads the inner bar code of the disc to check it's legit disc. This bar code is not on the backup disc because it's outside the usual data area.
Why not buy a cheap ps2 title and then cut the inner part of the disc out. This small disc is then inserted into the ps2 and a backup disc is put on top of this! This would make a backupdisc with the needed barcode to boot it.
What do you think? Any chance this could work?

Its an excellent theory, I just have no idea how that would work. The ps2 laser isn't stupid after all.

I think it would create too much weight for the disc to spin properly.

OK, I did some tests today and I think this could work.
First I tried putting 2 discs into the PS2 at the same time. Original title first, DVD-R on top. The lid can close, and the PS2 boots and the original game works :)
So no probs in having 2 discs in drive.
Then I tried putting a transparent disc (you know the kind that comes with a dvd-r spindle) in the drive. On top of this I put the original PS2 title. Turns on the PS2 and it boots and the game works :)
So, the laser can focus on the disc even if it's a bit further away than it usually is.
So far it's all good. I then tried to drill holes in a backup disc to make a little window so the barcode can be "seen" through the hole and on the original disc behind. But I guess my DIY skills are horrible. I ended up cracking the disc.
Anyway, I think this is feasible, but I need som help from here.

eventhough the laser can read the disc further away, you're putting more stress on the laser.

Some advice basicly. I need to cut either the outside of the original disc or the inside of a backup disc. I would prefer to do the last one, to save the original disc.
But how do I cut a disc so it does not crack? I don't think precision wil be crucial as long as the bar code can be read and the data area on the backup disc is complete.
On the other hand, cutting up the original disc would make an ideal solution because this mini disc could just stay in the PS2 and the backup just needs to be popped in.
Which solution should I go for, and what is the best tool for cutting the disc?
Thanks

Here's something to try, but it involves ruining an original disc:
Pop the disc in the microwave for no more than 5 secs, it will cause the bonding between the two plates to come apart (discs are two transparent pieces with some other substance compressed between them). The barcode should be undamaged. Now gently work the two parts until the bonding fully comes apart. The plastic will now be thinner (and weaker) so try using a knife or scissors to carefully cut out a minidisc with the barcode on it.

NO NO AND DOUBLE NO! Not only did that not work but the entire disk cracked, even the barcode! I seriously advise nobody to put there disks into the microwave.

Hmm wasting an original disk on a backup just seems a big waste...would be cool if someone invented transparent ps2 barcode id stickers that could be stuck on and read.

Well really, it depends on the kind of game you want to "waste". When i tried this, i used a demo. Thats hardly going to damage my collection now is it :P

So, I finally got a freind of mine to cut a disc in his workshop. He did an amazing job. It's a very clean and precise cut.
I then inserted the small disc into the ps2 and put a DVD-R on top. The PS2 says "insert original playstion disc" :(
So my first impression was that the laser could'nt change it's focus when going from the small disc to the backup one.
I then put the small disc in the PS2 and a original title on top. THIS GAME STARTS! So the PS2 can read the barcode from the small disc and then focus on the bigger one and continue reading the actual game data from there.
But why won't it work with the backup disc?

hmmm. what if you were too copy the barcode and print it out.
You could even laminate it to make it sturdier. I laughed at this thread at first, but now it seems very possible.

the system doesn't just check the barcode, it checks the whole disc. that's where swapmagic comes in.
if the disc isn't pressed, then it will fail to boot; that's why the real ps2 disc+inner barcode disc worked, it was a pressed disc. the system checked the whole disc.

But the rest of the disc is the data area. This can be copied 100% using clonedvd or other software.
The only area the laser can't write is the inner disc.
What does the PS2 look for?

I know there is this software that can print upc codes. you put in a number and it generates the corresponding upc bar code.
