My new Wii is supposed to be here next week and i am heavily into my modded PS2... well anyways, i have burned discs for my ps2 all the way up to 12x a lot of times and never had a problem because i know the PIO failures(i think that's what it's called) and the jitter correction are far below the recommended threshold to cause read errors.

When ps2 modding first became big, i know everyone wouls also say burn at 4x. The speed at which you burn has nothing to do with the speed at which the disc is read back, it's just for convenience until you start using a media\burner confliction situation....

Anyways, if everyone tells others to only burn at 4x due to "potentially" having more jitter errors, then can't i backup my games and burn them at 8x or 12x as long as rear errors do not exist?

Burners and media have come a long way since the release of the ps2 and i can't understand why everyone is still suggesting no faster than 4x.

I use Taiyo Yuden Premium, Verbatim Metal Azo Dye and Verbatim Godl Archival grade discs only and i have no problems and the performance graphs are what you would consider "Godlike."

Even if you dont have any problems, it keeps your console safe for the longer run.. I use verbatim and burn at X2.

the thing is this, generally a 12x image in not as clear as a 4x image. your laser in your wii has to try and read it, obviously if the image is not as clear your laser is going to hang about a bit longer trying to get a good read.

The effect that this has, is that generally a 12x disc will make your laser hotter than if you had burned at 4x as it is hanging around in the same spot too often.

Now you may think that because your 12x discs work that everything is fine, but if you actually look at the quality of the image it most likely will not be as good as your 4x image.

What are you saving? 10 mins on a disc?
Is it worth wearing you laser down for 10 mins extra burn? or do we get extra bonus points where your from for burning it faster?

what has burning speed got to do with keeping console safe?

burning speed matters only if u burn a disc and u get read errors - so u reduce it a little until u dont

burning a disc slower will not save ur console in the slightest

I take it you have never sat and watched a laser freak out on a "could be better" image then Thinone.
it ain't good for the laser.

End of as far as I am concerned but feel free to save those 10 mins or so.

... this is exactly what i am talking about.

And i have a warning label that comes with my Verbatim's specifically stating if you burn at 1 or 2x on these discs, you can either damage the media or cause damage to your burner. Your burner MUST have the latest firmware before using this media. It's not exact word for word but that's what it says.

And yes, i have seen graphs of my burns on these discs, i read a lot of reviews before switching to the "king of media". These discs do not give off problems in my ps2 at all. Using discs with a life of 75yrs+ must be good for a reader.

That warning above again states to not burn at 2x or less. I have seen, and this is not media specific, that if you use decent to high end media and you have a highly supported burner with the latest firmware, burning discs at half their max certified speed tends to be their hot spot. I have seen myself that burning too slow can have the same problems in some areas as burning as high as 75% of the max certified speed.

So basically, the Wii can read burnt discs, obviously, and it's not rare that it does. It's just like any other console out there today.

I have had my ps2 now for 3yrs reading discs error free. I burn 8x media at 4x and 16x at 6x-8x. I have only burned at 12x when burning testing discs for homebrew apps that i had no idea how to use at the time, hehe. They still work fine too such as snes and nes emus.
