PS2 Slim Flip Top Problems?

I just got it in the mail, hooked everything up accordingly, but yet it doesn't work. The original PS2 lid reads normal games, but with the flip top on, the ps2 doesn't spin discs to read. I'm curious if something is missing... I'm a little confused considering I followed a guide with pictures. The original PS2 was easier to use with Flip tops. Any help would be great. I've tried covering different spots, holding down the flip top, and various other things. Nothing works...

did you replace that plastic disk thing from the ps2 to the lid?

If so, I'm not sure what else the problem could be...

Try taking it apart and putting the fliptop back on.

Note: My fliptop lid was delivered all bent so I had to put textbooks on it in order for the ps2 to read the disks. It's bent back to shape now...
