How to backup DVD firmware before modding?

I'm kinda apprehensive about modding the xbox DVD without backing it up first. Is there a way to backup firmware and restore it later if something goes wrong?

Every single tutorial I've ever seen reccomends you to backup your original firmware at least 5 different times. Email it to yourself if you have to.

You need to read any/all of the stickied topics at the top of the forum. They're in bold and tell you everything you need to know.

I think ALL the latest firmwares backup your original firmware before flashing to the new version. In any case, the firmware packs come with a 'restore' option to restore original firmware on DVDs as you bought it. However, it won't know your key for your dirve, but this is made with the pre-flashing backup.

If I remember correctly, the flashing does not progress if the backup is not successful.
