How to play 360 games from harddisk?

I'm thinking of buying a Xbox 360 (Elite). I want to know if it is possible to play the games from the harddisk (so without burning on dvds ect.) Does the xbox have to be modified or can i just download some 360 iso from torrent sites and put it on the harddisk?
If this is all possible will xbox live still work?

no you can only run your games through dual layer dvds cause M$ have made security coding on the harddrive, my point bvieng is that you can only play demos(downloaded from xbox live) of your hardrive. If you wabt to play games (not demos) you have to flash your drive and burn the games

Maybe I'm being completely stupid here - I've just bought an xbox elite with Halo 3 & Forza - I was seriouly expecting to be able to copy the games to the hard drive & play them from there - are you saying it's impossible?

in which case it begs the question why the hell have I a 120gb hard drive? what's this used for?

hi no you cant copy the games to the hard drive,its only for downloading game demos,xbox one games off marketplace and the films off market place,which you have to pay for...
you can store a fair few music cds on there though:)
