A few days ago, my PSP started having trouble loading UMD's. After a few times rebooting the PSP it would work, but now it doesn't load them at all... My PSP is on version 3.50 and I already tried everything that was said on another thread... I used the tip of a screw driver with electrical tape on it to move the laser over, it was in the right place all along... I tried using some rubbing alchohal on a Q-Tip to clean the laser... You name it, I've tried it... is there any other way I can fix this problem? Please help...

Not quite sure what the Firmware even is... if it's the version, it's at 3.72 right now. I noticed a little switch in it and i pressed it which made it start trying to read the disc, here's what I saw:
1. The disc spinner thingy spun
2. The laser lit up and glowed red
3. The circular part of the laser started moving up and down in the rectangle part
Is it supposed to move back and forth? Or just up and down?

take your battery out and leave it for a min or so then go back and turn it on...if that doesnt work take out the umd and go into system settings on the xmb and select restore defaults....if that doesnt work....your may have a problem with your hardware.

then it sounds like your laser is shot, is it still under warrenty? if so brick it, and then call Sony support to replace it.

I don't think the lazer is shot... it still glows red but it doesn't move back and forth (probably the problem)
P.S. the warranty is up... :(
