So i get home today and pop in Assassins creed and what do you know, my dvd drive is jacked.
when i insert a game it makes this horrible noise like its just destroying the game, then it just ejects it. When i push it back in it keeps ejecting it.
i opened up my 360 and popped open the dvd drive.
im really not sure what to look for and was wondering if anyone has fixed this problem yet. im down for anything since i know i might just have to send in my 4th one to M$ :-(

The DVD drive is dead. Dump the firmware off of it and buy a new drive. Flash the old key onto the new drive and be done with it.

agree with ps2menace. that's what happend to me, and that's exactly what i am doing. you can buy a new dvd drive off ebay for cheap ($50) and it's easy enough to reflash with the old dvd drive key. goodluck.

not to jump on the bandwagon, but just for more confirmation, mine did the same thing. What type of drive do you have? I had a samsung, and right when I would load a game into the drive, it would just make a horrible grinding noise, and I eventually just swapped it out for another. Good luck

mine was a hitachi 78fk. died after limited play over 10 months (6-8 hours per month)

you need to "replace drive key" from the original drive to the new drive. if you had a different firmware on the original drive, then you will need to re-flash the new drive with the original drive key and new firmware.
