Wii backups all have stopped working

Hi there,
I'm getting disc read errors consistently on all backups with the wiikey. I was just playing a backup of SMG amongst other games, ejected, put in another backup and it got a disc error. Since then, nothing has been working.
What could be the problem and what can I do?

ouch. i'll think twice before putting in SMG..
there i searched and i found this..
Q. I've installed v1.9g and played SMG for a while. Now it appears that some of my 'back-ups' no longer work. What happened?
A. It seems there is more to the update on SMG than first meets the eye. A few have reported that it updates the Wii's firmware to version 3.0 (assuming your Wii isn't already at that level or greater). If this is the case, then none of the original discs from www.wiikey.cn will work anymore (see the GCOS/Hex'd section above). As for your 'back-ups' not working - well, we can only wait for a response from the WiiKey team on this.

i have a question to your reply.
You say that SMG updates to 3.0 if you are not at that level or higher...
I believe the latest firmware is 3.1, correct?
If that's correct, then people who have their systems updated to 3.1 then try to play SMG will not have this issue, correct?

I really am not sure.
I did some more research and I found out that it Installs something that prevents your modchip from working. doesn't mean it installs 3.0.
Cirrus, I think If you download the emergency disc from wiikey website, and apply it to your wii, it should fix your problem.

I think you misunderstood - This wasn't the first time I've played SMG. I've played it and other games since the update and today it just randomly all stopped working.
Then, for a moment, it started working.
Then it stopped again.

Mebbe your Wiikey died.
For the record, I, like many used SMG to update our wiis wayyyy before the wiikey update came out. It does indeed take it to 3.1.
I don't have any concrete facts of course, but most the time i've read ppl having issues with smg they report firmware version 3.0 AFTER the update, which is kinda odd. Can't confirm this tho, its just what i remember after reading the threads.

Mine is 3.1U so it ought to be fine.
Do wiikey's die like that?
It actually started working for about 2 minutes again and then stopped again. From my understanding that basically means that the soldering job isn't clean enough and some contacts are now being bridged.

Are you sure? Mine's a brand new jap wii mod( the mod I don't know but my hunch its a wikeey) which I ummm...updated via wifi to 3.1j now its having a hard time starting up wii games. It still plays wii games but I have to keep reinserting the disc everytime I get the read disc error. Once it kicks in and starts to read a disc its ok until you change to another game nad another insert disc trial insertion again. Anyone know a fix?

See, you guys are scaring me. What makes it worse is that I have the D2Ckey and nobody on here really knows if this mod will fail due to updates yet.
They have no way of flashin this chip yet they say this chip doesn't reside in memory making it undetectable... Does that mean I should never worry? Who knows! But I am not updating my wii until others go ahead of me first...... At least I'm honest :)

Yes this had happened to me also after the updates (3.1 and 1.9g) Everything was fine now I can only play original discs. I have tried the emergency restore disc from Wiikey.cn and still nothing. I do believe that this is a wiikey problem (died or crashed) after the updates, I have emailed the wiikey team (pointless I know) but I am waiting a response, I have also purchased a new wiikey from a reputable site as there may be a chance that we have been scammed with clones and that this may be the problem since this is happening to a select few wiikey users.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Updating to 3.1j makes you Wii prone to read errors but still can play games if you patiently retry reinserting. Any news for the fix yet? I'm getting tired of reinserting a couple of times before I play. Sheeesh....my modded ps2 has a better performance considering its on its 4th year T_T I never should've bought this stupid Wii...arggg

This doesn't have to do with the wiikey but it does have to do with my last post.
I finally found a d2ckey board, I have this chip, and there are no problems that have occurred so I am retracting my last post about being scared of updating with that chip.
The d2ckey can accept any new update from nintendo and can accept SMG fine without error including no console issues either.
So far, the d2ckey is what it says it is, stealth-proof and undetectable.
